Would you consider the HP DVD+R 8x media of poor quality if i'm only able to burn a playable dvd movie at 4x speed(8x burn never plays) on my Emprex DL 16x.

HP discs are poor quality, regardless of how fast they can or cannot be burned by your burner~ :) they utilize CMC MAG (one of the poor manufacturers at this present time) in MANY of their media~ :) i wouldn't use HP blank dvds for your IMPORTANT stuff if i were you, go with Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim for better results, i can pretty much ALMOST assure you that using TY or Verbs, you WILL be able to burn faster (if you choose to do so) :)

I go along with kivory666. Beware of the HP/Phillips/memosux/and TDK media. Cmags run rampant among them.
I mess around with some memosux cmags and I can see a difference between those and my quality media on stand alone playback. You can get better quality media than HP for same price,and even cheaper. Here's some other quality plus format I find locally,and tys are among them in the plus format:
Japanese spindles of Fuji +8x/sony+8x:Yuden000-T02
Japanese spindles of Maxell +8x,hitachis: Maxell-002-00
Taiwanese spindles of Maxell +8x: Ritek-r03
Office Depot +8x: Ritek-r03
Taiwanese sony +8x: SonyD11,beware of the taiwanese fuji +8x!
Of course,the tys and verbs are top quality stuff.Locate the Made in Japan on those wrappers for the finest quality media.

Saugmon I agree with everything you said EXCEPT about TDK media.... the Twain and Japan made TDKs are first class media: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
I used to use TDKs but now am strickly Taiyo Yuden guy! I now print on the injet hub printables by Taiyo Yuden flawlessly! You won't find me trying out other media anymore..... I strickly use the best and I never came accross any Taiyo Yuden disk that were bad at all ....... out of maybe 400 now! KEEP ON BURNING!!!!!!!

Ihoe: Creaky will agree with me on some of those TDKs. The TDK TTH-01 are in a lot of burn logs we have been looking at. I've been seeing some TTG-01 and 02's also. Maybe TDK quality is slipping? Maybe Fakes? That's why I don't recommend TDK.
I don't burn them because nobody has them on sale that is close to me.

A buddy of mine bought them.He had burn coasters in his NEC 1100A so he gave me the rest. Would you believe he paid $15 for that 30 pack spindle,when a week before I got the 30 pack spindles of fuji tys for $9

Look at the site you listed in digitalfaq.com under FAKES. You'll see TDK being listed there as being faked.
I can't confirm TDK quality because no local stores carry them and the farther stores rarely have them on sale. If I did use the dash format, Then I'd get the japanese spindles.

well...... I know I used TDK a longgggggggggggggg time ago...... just can't seem to locate one to find the manufacturer ID. one day when I catalog all my collection I will find one and then test it out! Good thing I only use Taiyo Yudens! LOL

another suggestion i'd like to add is to really take the comments/rankings by that site, digitalfaq.com, with a grain of salt. i PERSONALLY don't even go there anymore as their ranking system as well as SOME of the media on there is so out of date, lots have changed since then, manufacturers/quality control has come and gone...
i noticed people always quote that website, or refer others to go "check it out," believing that EVERYTHING they say is considered "written in stone", NOT TRUE~! i'm not saying that website has NO factual evidence or am i even putting it down, it's just become too easy for people to simply link newbies to that site and they believe everything they read...
i mentioned in another thread in here how OLD and biased that website is, i believe gurnard AND catfreak both agreed with me in that you need to consider that the info on there is quite old, not regularly updated and biased in the eyes of the site owner/compiler~ :)
in MY opinion, TDK media sucks~ i'll take almost ANY other crappy media over the TTG01/TTG02s that TDK makes themselves, others have had good success, but as i stated, it's MY opinion of TDK...i'll go out and BUY memosux before i buy TDK~ yes, to me, it's THAT bad.
