I have read the threads, and backed up a number of movies...thanks to the advice in here.

I'm curious - those backing up War of the Worlds with DVD Shrink - are you backing up the entire DVD or just the movie? I've used the -re-author approach which is cool but it does strip out the menu options.

Is there a way I can back up the movie with menu but leave the other features off...and still fit to a regular DVD?

I have DVD Shrink, Nero, DVD Decryptor, VOB Blanker....

Just want to avoid the Dual Layer if I can.

Thanks for your help!

Pat

You can back it up in full disc mode and insert still pictures or images to get your compression down. Also use custom compression on the menu and slide the bar all the way to the right. Remove all the audio except AC3 5.1 along with your subpictures.

I've not tried this movie yet, and don't know how big it is, but I'm sure you can get what you want out of it. It just depends on how much compression you're willing to live with.

This is using DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter only.

I put in the movie and use decryptor and then I use shrink and BAM!!

Done. I burn them using Nero.

Backed up War of the Worlds and Polar Express today.

DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter cannot handle newer encryptions on Sony/columbia movies, but will still backup 90-95% of the rest by thier lonesome.

Thanks for the advice.

I've used DVD Decryptor but primarily use DVD Shrink. War of the Worlds is over 7GB on Disc 1.

So what are the steps using Decryptor and Shrink with Nero burner for burning to a regular DVD?

Thanks alot!

Rip the movie using DVD Decrypter in File mode and make sure all files are selected.

Wait

When DVD Decrypter is done, open DVD Shrink. Click Open Files and look for the file that decrypter created (VIDEO_TS) and open it

Quick Analysis...wait

Do as suggested above...insert still images and pictures in your special features and unreferenced materials, apply maximum compression to your menu, remove all audio except AC3 5.1 and any subtitles you don't need. If the compression is acceptable to you after removing these items then back it up. If there is too much compression you may just want to try the main movie only option in Reauthor mode. Note: Reauthored backups do not contain anything other than the main movie...no extra, no menus, etc.

Click Backup. In the new window select your target to read. ISO file and burn with DVD Decrypter.

Wait

When DVD Shrink is finished compressing the movie, DVD Decrypter will automatically open and begin burning your movie. Make sure you have a blank in your drive.
