My ps2 slim would not read dvds. I replaced the kmh-430 with the pvr-802w which is supposed to replace it but now it still does'nt read dvds. Is there something else that would cause this or does the dvd pot on the new laser need to be adjusted? Thanks for all replys.

There is a solider that you need to remove on the bottom of the laser or else it won't work. The solider is supposed to prevent overheating, but in my experience, it will not work unless it is removed. There are also calibration screws that you can adjust on the bottom of the laser assembly if you want to tinker with those first.

I wish i could provide you with a guide, but i really don't have any means right now.

I removed the solder from the point that is supposed protect the laser from static electricity if thats what your talking about. As for the pots are you refering to the cd and dvd adjustments?

I suppose so. It's two black screws on the bottom of the laser assembly.

Hey guys,

I just got a new pvr 802w lens with assembly kit. I tried to just plug it in, but still it can't read any cd or dvd. What should I do? How do I know if I have to ajust something? The lens travels the rail but the spindle doesn't turn. I do get the sony welcome screen, but it says that there is nothing to read.

Thanks TOXIC i'll do some more digging to see what I can come up with.

Hey ASNHEAT did you remove the static electricity short on the new laser before you installed it? If the laser has this short on it the laser wont read a thing until its been removed.

No I didn't!

Do I have to do so even if I've bought a brand new optical block?
Is it to late to do so?
What does it look like?
Is there a guide/tutorial about install this new lens?

If you bought a new laser the odds are pretty good that it'll have this short as its to protect the laser from static electricity until it is installed. Its located next to connector on the laser where your cable goes. If its not removed it will look like a single blob of solder. When this short is removed there should be 3 little solder points where once there was but one.

How do you take it off? By un-soldering it? Do you know a guide with pictures regarding this issue?

Why did they put that there, if that's the reason why it doesn't work?

Yes you do have to unsolder it. You'll need a low watt soldering iron (25-30) is ususlly the best and I prefer using desoldering braid to soak up the solder. As I stated above the reason its there is to prevent static electricity from doing damage to the laser until its installed.
