I legally copy the movies that I own, because I leand them out to my family members. I copy them so the orignal doesn't get damaged and unable to use. I have recently found out that a family member is burning them to keep which is illagal.

I wish to find away to stop him so I though that I could possibly add some type of a protection to do that.

Any help that in advance

The best way to stop him from copying your discs is to stop letting him borrow them

You can try using dvdxcopy. I think it places a watermark on them to prevent re-copying.

You can also try to burn them fast, and on some crappy media. Some standalones will be able to play them, but good luck trying to rip them with all the crc errors that will probably be on them.

You may even want to try to scratch them up a little.

saugmon,

If you mean the dvdxcopy from 321 studios (the original software) - ppl can re-copy those on any software that is not the dvdxcopy software (well, the RF version will re-copy them also) ...

If you are speaking of a different software, then disregard my comment (so many that sound alike)

I knew it had a watermark, but didn't know if other proggys could rip them.

I know there is a program out there for this question, but can't recall actual answer. I will have to check into my threads I subscribed to.

Whatever the program is, I would like to read about it also. I have often wondered if I could re-protect my own backups.

What would be intresting is if we could apply a CSS like an original DVD-ROM has. If we can decrypt it, surely we can crypt it! Then again, anyone who has DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink or similar app could get by it.

If you cant dazzle them with brillance, then baffle them with bullshit...

The idea is to have a GOOD WATCHABLE copy of the movie to watch while the origional is placed in a safe place and at the same time prevent someone else to copy it.

Messing up the copy wouldn't solve the problem then talonman wouldn't be able to watch it either.

I asked this question a while back and got little responce. I believe it's a good idea to copy protect what is legally yours.

Having used 6 different pc burners and seeing how they perform as well as playback, some will cause little errors in backups. You get too many of these errors or in the wrong spots, and you have crc errors. These crc errors will prevent those backups from being re-ripped.

Those stand alones will be more forgiving with those crc errors,so they'll usually play them ok.
