Hi,
I bought a slimline silver 70004 PS2 a week ago. Also, I bought a SwapMagic 3.6 with the metal tool A, B and C. This is the tool C with the small pin which you have to insert next to the hinge. I made sure I installed it all correctly, and the disc spins as described.
When I boot from the SwapMagic DVD, I try to load a backup of GTA SA DVD. Result: Not a valid PS2 disc.
I also tried it with my original GTA disc, and also with an original Gran Turismo 4 DVD. Both give the same error, so obviously something is wrong.
What on earth I am doing wrong? Anybody out there with suggestions? Thanks in advance for your time!

I don't see why it should work if it is properly inserted in the first place. But ok, I am desperate so I tried it. Pulled all tools out and re-inserted them. This didn't help.

then there is something wrong with your ps2 then. if it's not playing orignals too it's definatly your ps2.

It is playing originals just fine... but NOT if I load the disc with the Swap Magic disc.
So:
- load original game --> fine
- load swapmagic dvd --> load original game --> not working
- load swapmagic dvd --> load backup game --> not working
My PS2 is perfectly well. But there is something wrong with the SwapMagic stuff, and I do not know what is wrong.

If your loading an original game there's no reason to use swap magic in the first place. The reason your backup games aren't working with swap magic is likely the media your using. Usually cheap dvd's won't work well if at all with ps2. Try one of the brands on the list in the link below.

PS: I usually use Maxell 8x DVD-R's that can be found almost anywhere with no problem (burning at 4x)

I wil try that when I can get hold of them..
But shouldn't you be able to load an original game via SwapMagic to test if the SwapMagic is working in the first place??

gta should work but gran turismo wouldn't. its a dual-layed game. the toc is too high for swap magic to boot.

Thanx! Indeed. I tried with original GTA Vice City and this one loads via Swap thing.
I will go try tomorrow with different media. I will keep you posted.
Thanks all for the suggestions so far!
