The thing is... you just posted twice... there's a tool called EDIT... If you have the last post, EDIT it, don't post again...

Anyway, Bleiss, this thread is a good'un, leave it as it is now ok?

@Tokijin
Do we share the same opinion on something? I'm using Maxell DVD-R at the moment for my downloaded gear, but i use Verb/TY's for my proper DVD backups.

PS. I just noticed this thread got updated, if i'm repeating someone, sorry...

you can successfully burn @ 8x on the TY's no problem.. providing you have a quality burner, and if no, i'd stay @ 4x then.
i burn mine at 4, 6 and 8x, just depends on what mood i am in that day, but i always use quality media... there was only 1 time i used crappy media, and it was when i was a n00b, and it only took one time to realize i needed guidance... having been a member of aD for a while now, i just share my experience and try to convert as many people as possible who use bad media !!

i started using verbatims, so i couldnt upgrade to much, but the buzz around here is nothings better than yudens so all i can say is so long verbatims, hello TY.

Lol I don't know Permiggs, you know what they say, great minds think alike. I just don't like using my Taiyo Yuden's for movies, because I order them online. I can find quality media locally. I would've gotten more than a 5 pack of the high grade Hitachi Maxell's, but I was a little low on cash. I don't know I'll pick up more of those If I can find them in bulk, or maybe try some Sony's. RitekG05 has never failed me for movies, but it's certainly not high end media. I consider it above average, below TY, Verb's, or Hitachi Maxell's. Hey I've heard from a couple gurus that even the high end TDK's are garbage, is that true?

very few TDK's are made in japan.. you'll have to actually ask the doc on that one... he can set the story straight on TDK... the MIJ ones.
i have good luck with verbs MCC004, Ritek R03, did with G05 at one time, till i upgraded my burner, now it no likey G05, also, it loves the TY's, and Fuji....
i still need to test out them maxells though...

Yeah same here. I have like 6 discs to backup between PS2 games and movies, so I'll test out the High Grade Maxell DVD+R's. Speaking of "Doc", I'm almost positive he's the one who told me that TDK's blow. I believe him 100%, I just wanted him to elaborate a little. Cheers!

At work, people swear over their TDK and Imation DVD media... Now that i'm a bit more confident about talking about media, i started an 'argument' at work on media. I told them i was using Verbatim DVD+R and Verb/TY DVD-R for my PS2/film backups and Maxell for my downloaded AVI converted films. They all laughed when i mentioned Taiyo Yuden! Ignorance is funny! When i started talking about media codes they all shut up! It's a shame (couldn't do it)i didn't print any of those scans, 75% on the Imation and 85% on the TDK... LOLOL
Needless to say, we had 95% on the Verb...

Yeah I've been on AD enough to know that I'll win most DVD burning arguments. I went to Radio Shack awhile back, and asked the worker "how come you guys don't carry good DVD+R DL media, Memorex sucks." He responded with "Memorex is decent." I said not really, because big manufacturers outsource their media to different factories, you never know what you're getting. I laughed, because it was obvious the guy was spouting the company line. Most people that work in those type stores know little of quality media, and Joe Blow in general knows even less. It's a definitely good to carry our experience's from AD into the real world, somebody has to enlighten Bubba and Skeeter about the importance of qualiy media lol.

well, i can tell you your will be better off on buying the verbatims for 2 reasons...

price and price !!
but from best buy, they have the 50 pack for 14.99 and the 25 pack of movie reel verbs for the same..
the ty's are a deal, but your paying a bit more for the thermals, plus the printables (ritek) do you even have a printer that can print to disk?
otherwise, your wasting your money on someting that wont do you any good (printing wise)..

@Tokijin
Funny!
I had a similar experience at Office Max. Saturday I just picked up 50 Verbs for $14. The guy there very nicelly tryied to suggest an even better deal, some Memorex or, Kypermedia, at a much,much better price:). He named'em "great quality media". I shared with him some of my DVD media knowledge(not much,but nontheless useful!)acquired in the short time since I've been here at AD. At the end, he just said:"I know nothing about it, I've never burned a dvd in my life. But if I ever do, thanx for the info. By the way, if you're looking for a job, we have an opening in our store!"

Lol Yeah I think I'd lose business for any of those companies. If a customer asked me if Memorex is any good, I'd say "no they suck, in fact all the DVD media we sell here sucks, order some TY's or Verb's from http://www.supermediastore.com unless of course they sold Verb's, the High Grade Maxell's, or Sony DVD+R's made in Japan (TY).

Ritek's are decent. If you're going to bother to order them online, go with TY's or Verb's. They're both superior to Ritek. I use these: http://supermediastore.com/taiyo-yuden-silver-thermal-8x-dvd-r-me... I have no idea what the advantage of the Thermal media is, perhaps Gear79 can enlighten me. Specifically for console systems, I think TY's are a cut above Verb's. Mainly because Verb's are manufactured in Taiwan, and I've had more personal experiences with people who couldn't get Verb's to work. There have been people who couldn't get TY's to work, but usually noobs who you know're doing something wrong. Legit TY's in the hands of someone with burning knowledge are as close to perfection as you can get, in my opinion.
