When I made a back up copy of War of the Worlds I was able to do it using shrink only. However after watching it I thought it seemed a bit grainy. Maybe it's my imagination ,but it seems to me that back up copys of other movies have looked better. I only did the main movie and nothing else, and I am quite sure it was under two hours long. Anyone have any ideas on this.

Hey Rick6,

I've also backed up War of the Worlds. Comparing it to the original, it looks identical. The movie does have a grainy look to it, very similar to Minority Report in that it is very filtered. Nothing to worry about, it's a 'look' that Spielberg went for in the films.

Yeah, mentioned this on another thread and at 1st thought the grainy picture looked strange? I made the same analogy that the movies grainy picture was like another Tom Cruise movie, I just could not remember the name. Judging by our observations this is not a good look. I copied the full screen version and at 1st thought that the picture may be out of focus because of the enlarged view. But I agree this is the washed look the studio wanted. Strange though the commercials that include movie footage does not appear grainy at all?

I am totally lost with this grainy look thing. Alot of the movie was shot at night time but I don't recall anything grainy about it.

The movie does have a kind of grainy look at times but also keep in mind that even just copying movie only (with AC3 5.1 and DTS), the best you're going to be able to get is about 60% regarding compression. With most other movies, I usually can get much higher than that, in the 70% - 90% range (or sometimes even 100%).
