I'm looking to add a mod chip to my V9 (SCPH-50001 3C) PS2. I'm a little weary of soldering my PS2. The last time I soldered I tried soldering a resistor on my PC's motherboard. The soldering went well up to the part when I was finished I ended up breaking one of the connectors I soldered to. Is there a difference between the DMS solder and non-solder version? Is the non-solder version as difficult or easier to install than the solder version? I was thinking about buying this from mod-chip.com. Any suggestions?

It might be a little late now, but go with the DMS 4 Pro. Most people butcher their PS2's when attempting to install the Solderless chip. It's not that easy. I looked into it and ran the other way as fast I can. A TON of people have had problems with the solderless chips crapping out quickly. Make sure you follow the instructions EXACTLY: http://www.dms3.com/dms4ezi/downloads/Installation_Manual/DMS4_EZ...

I just figured I would have a better shot at installing this than taking a shot at soldering. If there weren't so many solder points I might have gone with the DMS4 pro. Some of those solder points looked like you had to solder to connectors that might have already been soldered on. I have had one of these pop off my mother board before and I'm afraid the same thing will happen with my PS2. Hopefully my patience will prevail and I will get this thing to work.

Yeah just be very patient and extremely careful. Follow the directions to the letter.
