I bought an XBOX from someone that looked to be a failed attempt at a soft-mod. The hard drive has UNLOCKED written on it.

When starting the system up, the screen is black and white, and rolling. I have found that it has Evolution X on it, but not sure of version number.

Several people have told me to go in and change the video setting. It gave me the options for DEFAULT, PAL, JAPAN (NTSC), NORTH AMERICA (NTSC), REST OF THE WORLD (PAL). I changed it to each and every one (making sure that it saved it each time), then rebooted the system, and still having the same problem. I have also tried downloading the Enigmah Video Switch Disc, but I can't get it opened and burned to disc. I figured I didn't need it anyway, since I was able to get into the settings and change the video setting. Someone had also mentioned to me to go into the Microsoft Original dashboard, but it will not let me do it. I tried reading the tutorials about FTP-ing the XBOX, but with the screen rolling so fast, I can't make anything out to see what most of the settings are.

Does anyone have a way to completely erase whatever this idiot did to this machine, and re-install the original XBOX software to bring it back to factory condition.

By the way, it is a version 1.6b

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

if you have the eeprom off of your orignal hdd, (if u backed up ur hdd when u softmoded it, it should have the eeprom in it) put that on ur computer along with the C and E drives, then use make-iso-win to make an iso of it, then burn it to a disc as an iso via using DVD decriptor, put the hdd in your computer and put the disc in the disc drive (make sure u put only the xbox hdd in and set your computer to boot offa the disc) after it boots the disc ISO linux should come up, then select option 3, some stuff happens, it will ask you 2 options either A. unlock hd via option unlockhd -a or you can do the option of B. lock hd via option lockhd -a select option B. which you'll have to type lockhd -a and it'll lock that hard drive to your xbox. then turn off the computer then put it in your xbox.. waa bam it'll boot in your xbox! but being the disc has your eeprom in it, you can't use it to lock other ppls hdds and put them in there xbox's. if you need ISO linux i'll send it to you.. here's my email if you have msn.. slipknot69_death@hotmail.com hopes this helps you!
