Hello,

A failed log from Decrypter would help a ton.
Make sure your firmware is current. Check the ID in your blank discs and make sure that you're using quality discs by using DVD Identifier.

As for your problems, there are many things that could be causing the problems. As stated a log will help but also what type of hardware are you using.

DVD Decrypter and DVD Fab are the same thing (same tool) DVD Decrypter is better but not being updated anymore, DVD Fab is still being updated.

DVD Shrink is a burning software that will fit a moving on a DVD, made because the DVD DL were so expensive. Prices are coming down on DVD DL, so DVD Shrink in the future will not be needed.

I prefer Nero Recode, does a better job than DVD Shrink but it is not free.

PS.. there are lots of posts on all the applications, Afterdawn search does very well in finding them.

While DVDFab Decrypter and DVD Decrypter both have ripping abilities, that's about the only thing they have in common.
DVD Decrypter lets you choose the output, ISO or File. It can booktype DVD+R to DVD Rom for those drives that support it. It can check for firmware updates and it can burn ISO and Img files.

DVD Shrink does not burn. It is only a transcoder. It does have the ability to open up DVD Decrypter, Nero, or Copy To DVD to do the burning. Those are the only three it can do that with. And I have my doubts about it being created because of Dual Layer prices since Shrink debuted in april '03 and the earliest articles on dual layer that I can find are from may '03 that announce the discovery of the technology with no actual production.

I would like to know what burner you have and what the firmware version is.

Also what media you are using?

What is your burn Speed?

Hmmmm.... Maxell is high quality media if it's "made in Japan" only. On the other hand, I would "never ever" want to waste a single penny on those cheap CMC MAG or Memorex, unless the MID says RITEK. Memorex or CMC MAG is inferior comparing to today's media technologies due to their notorious cheap dye. Go here http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/262544 for more information on high quality media. You'll be surprise to see those scans of CMC MAG comparing to top notch Yuden, Verbatim and Maxell "made in Japan".

16X is way too fast for burning -- you're likely to produce more coasters down the road if you continue burning at 16X. I don't even dare to go beyond 8X even if I'm burning top notch media like Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim and Maxell (made in japan) - all my backups were burned at 4X regardless if it's TY, Verbs or Maxell (m.i.j) and they all play flawlessly.

WARNING: Do not "update/upgrade" your SAMSUNG BD-D5XXX series (Bluray Player), or else you cant enjoy any of your movie files.

Memorex and 16x most likely the problems. Like alkohol I rarely burn even top quality verbatum MCC003's over 4x. 8x on occasion.

Robk9,

I don't know where you got your information from as most of it is incorrect as explained by zippyd.

As for DL media I doubt I will ever make the transition because of the excellent quality achieved when I use dvdremake to edit then dvd-rb/cce to encode the trimmed and polished folder. After removing all the previews and trailer, the folder is rarely over 6.5 gb even if you keep the extras which is no problem for rb/cce.

I was just trying to keep it simple and not use all the fancy terms. Most people who are asking for help just want to get the job done, the quickest, easiest and make a good product.

As for DVD Decrypter, I know it does alot more, thats why it is better.

As for DVD DL, if you did a survey and the prices were about the same for the media, most people would buy DVD DL to avoid any compression. If you added up all the movies you have done, how many would be compressed and how many would be at 100%?

As for DVD Shrink, I did try it but found it was not needed for my purpose, I did not explore all the features. The only think about these programs I wanted is to make good backups so I could put my original DVD up and not allow my kids to mess them up anymore and you will find that this is the purpose of most people seeking help (I hope).

And more and more movies are getting over 6.5 gigs, times are changing.
