Burn Speeds on DVD Decrypter

Quick question: DVD Decrypter allows you to burn at 1x, 2.4x, etc, so is it possible to burn media at these speeds if another program does not allow you to?
For example, my Nero Express says the lowest speed I can burn at is 2.4x, yet DVD decrypter allows 1x, and Ive burned movies this way withno problems. I also picked up some Taiyo Yuden 16x DVD-R, which Nero will not let me pick a write speed on and defaults to maximum. But, I could just use DVD decrypter at 1x. Would doing so affect the performance on a burned PS2 game?
Ok, maybe not so quick a question, but Id appreciate some help. I saw a thread a few minutes ago where someone couldnt burn lower than 6x, and, unless the media explicitly says so, could they not just do 1x on DVD decrypter? Or mayhap my burner is just strange.

DVD Decrypter should always have those speeds listed even if your blank DVD only supports 2X, 4X and so on (my Taiyo Yudens only supports 2X and 4X). I've had the same thing with Nero Express, and I just switched to Decrypter. Thing is, if your media suports 2X, 4X, 8X, and 16X (for example), and you select 1X in Decrypter, it will burn at 2X instead (like going up to the next thing on the list) and if you select 6X, it switches to 8X (I think).
And no, it does not affect the performance on a burned PS2 game, unless you burn at a high speed like 8X when it's not needed.

Thanks. Im burning a game with it now and will test in 10 mins or so, but I just remembered something else I read on the forums here a while back. When copying a game, burning it to the hard drive with decrypter, then to the DVD with decrypter, it is best to use the .MDS file instead of the ISO. Is this true?

And another question that occurs is this: if, when copying games, you should use the MDS instead of the ISO, why is it that downloaded games, from what Ive heard, are only available in ISO? The MDS file is tiny, so, if ISOs cause laggy games, why not include them?

Well.. I don't know if it's BEST to use one or the other, the .MDS file is like a .CUE file, I'm pretty sure it contains the location of the .ISO and how big it is in file size. If you select the .MDS file, it will load in quicker because it is small in size. It doesn't effect the outcome of your burned game, so you don't have to worry about that :). I think some peoples computers had a hard time loading in the huge .ISO file and that's why they say it's better to use the .MDS file, so it's up to you.

I think the .MDS only shows the location of the .ISO file on the local computer (where it was ripped from), so if you were to load a .MDS file from a downloaded game, you would most likely encounter an error like "can't find the location of image".

Well thanks for the info. But, sadly, Im getting the "Not a valid PS2 disc" message yet again. I figured that taiyo yuden would work, but I guess not. Maybe 16x is too high, I shouldve looked around supermediastore longer and gotten the 8x. Didnt think they had em last time for some reason, but they do. Or maybe Ill just get verbatim and hope for the best with those.

Ok wait, you DO have some type of mod, right? You need either Swap Magic or a modchip like the DMS4 PRO or Matrix Infinity to load your backups. If you need one of those, norcalmods.com has good deals on installation, and if they don't have the modchip you want, try divineo.com. divineo also has Swap Magic there if you want to try that, but I would go with the mod chip. Also, what game did you burn? And the Taiyo Yudens are really good, stick with those.

Ive been using Swap Magic and a fliptop. Ive gotten some burns to work, but largely none will. I have one game on a Memorex DVD-R that works alright, but with sound skipping/legging, and then a Memorex +R that runs fine every time I try it. The +R was burned by a friend of mine, though it was from an older batch of Memorex DVDs and his new batch dont work at all. The -R I burned myself, though I couldnt get any other disks to run from that batch and wound up using the rest for movies.

Ok... maybe it was the game or the write speed I used last time. I decided to try copying that +R, used Decrypter to read it, then write at 4x. I have no idea what the lowest burn speed supported by these DVDs is, couldnt find any info online, except for one site that said it supported 1x-16x. The game I tried before was Leisure Suit Larry, which may have some weird burn problems, but I havent heard anyone complain about it. Im going to try some of my other games and see what happens.

Decrypter should show the supported speeds on the right hand side where all the details are, be sure to put in the blank DVD first of course. It should say Supported Write Speeds, last line under Disc Information. The newer batches of Memorex are not good at all, I'd stick with Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim. There is a good media thread that's stickied under this forum if you want to take a look at that.
I don't think Leisure Suit Larry needs anything special for it to work, just use good media in the DVD-R format, or it could have been a bad rip or bad burn, be sure to clean the original disc real good.

If anyone ses this, thanks to all who helped me today. After struggling for quite a while trying to make a reliable backup of a PS2 game, I finally got a working one burned, and then proceeded to backup a few more, and they all worked as well. I found that the only way I could do it is with Taiyo Yuden 16x DVD-Rs, burning at 4x. They can supposedly handle 2.4x, but the games burned at this speed were not recognized as PS2 disks. Also, I burned with the ISO files taken from my disks, not the MDS, and they still run fine. So, the main lesson Ive learned is that, yes, Taiyo Yuden is the best. Well, maybe Verbatim is as well, Ive heard good things, but I got the Yuden to work, and Im sticking with them.

Glad to hear the good news.
I forgot to mention, that there are games out there that require to be written at 8X, rebuilt, won't work on a specific version console etc.
Before you burn a game, search here on the forums before burning to see if it needs anything special before burning. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/9/162734#1484645 This link should have most of the games listed.
