I am hoping someone can help me. I have been reading up on everyone's problems with burn errors, but none seem to be the same as mine. I have included my burn error message that I get. I am using Fuji DVD+R blank DVDs.
 Thanks,
 Tracy

Quote:This is something that Alkohol pointed out in another thread, but now that I think about it is kinda true. Ritek was suppose to be a pretty good quality media, but now we've been getting alot of burn errors w/ Ritek so switch to something like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim, Sony and Fuji are fine so long as they are Made in Japan, the same goes for Maxell.8:11:02 PM #12 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 2483

							Hi GlueEater,
I don't know what jumpers are or how to set master and slave correctly or what they even are. Are there any websites where I could get more info on these and how to set them correctly.

 Thanks,
 Tracy

Did you install your Burner yourself or did it come w/ the comp? IF it came w/ it then send it back to them and they'll fix it for you, if you installed it yourself then it should have came w/ an instruction booklet.

I transferred the burner to my other computer (it's faster and better than the other I was using) and I don't seem to have any problems. If my drivers are off wouldn't that effect my burning no matter which CPU I was using?

On the 'good' computer, run Nero Startsmart, locate Nero Toolkit then run InfoTool then click on the 'Aspi' tab.Look at Nerpo aspi layer and system aspi layer. Then do the same on the problem machine and see if they are the same.

My Nero ASPI is installed and working on both computers and on both computers I have no System ASPI installed. I have also been getting some burn errors on my 'good' computer, but not as many, so I am not sure what is wrong. I don't know what a System ASPI is or how I would go about installing one. Does this having something to do with my burn errors?
 Thanks,
 Tracy

Before going too far into drivers, have a look at this link.
 http://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters.php?DVDnameid=269&Search=Sear...

You mention that the good PC has occasional burning problems which contradicts your earlier post, or did you mean that there was no problems except when you moved the Sony drive to it?

It seems, from the opinions posted on the link that the drive is very picky when it comes to media.I would buy a small pack of Maxell -R, which the package will say are made in Japan (I think the 10 packs in jewel cases) and try them before going further.

The good computer had no burn errors for a while on the discs that I had had problems with on the bad computer, but I was too quick in saying that it didn't get any burn errors because a couple of days later I was getting burn errors again. I tried Sony DVD+R that are made in Japan but I got burn errors with those. I don't know how to switch over to -R DVDs, can you tell me how, my burner supports those, but I don't know where to go to enable my burner to burn those. Also I have been looking for a new burner, any ideas on what would be the best?
 Thanks,
 Tracy

See this thread, very similar to your problem and note the reply from 'creaky' regarding 'aspi'
 http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/265883

He gives a link which will help you install the required ASPI layer, then you can eliminate that as the problem.

Also as regards DVD-R disks, you just insert the disk. The burner should accept it.

I note that 'creaky' has not subscribed to your thread, which surprises me.If you are not making progress you might PM himself and ask him to look at your thread.

you dont need to enable anything to burn -rs just put them in your drive and burn like normal. you could go to http://www.newegg.com/ProductSort/SubCategory.asp?SubCategory=5 for a good place to buy dvd burners for around 40$. i would buy a lite-on because they dont have riplock at all whick slows down the extraction of dvds to your hard drive on most brands and can booktype my +rs to dvd-rom

right... have had a look thru, nothing wildly different from what the other guys have found/recommended....
Quote:- the ATAPI drivers are supposed to be listed in this section, fix via this - http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm however if the burner is external to the PC you may not have to bother with this - see my last comment.Existing drivers:

Quote:- There's a 'UYS4' dated June 28th, 2004 (still quite old though but might do the trick) here -Recorder: <SONY DVD RW DW-U18A> Version: UYS1

Quote:- (see previous comment). your firmware is current enough to recognise those Ritek discs, as if it was too out of date you'd see just the first line ie -Recorder: SONY DVD RW DW-U18A, Media type: DVD+R
Disc Manufacturer ID: RITEK, Media Type ID: R03, Product revision number: 2
Disc Application Code: 0, Extended Information Indicators: 3

Quote:- however maybe the newer firmware will improve things.Recorder: SONY DVD RW DW-U18A, Media type: DVD+R

edit- the burner appears to be ecternal to the PC, ie USB or similar ?, do you know if you have USB2.0 or the older USB1.1 ??
