Backup DVD's in PS2

Are the folowing compatible for playback in PS2 w/o a mod:

DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, VCD, SVCD

and would ps2 play PAL format video??? if not is there a hack/workaround similar to a DVDplayer.... like region codes

As far as back up movies i know -R and +R will work,
no mod needed for back up movies, just games.
Not sure about the RW, i know they don't work well for games.
But i would think for movies they would be fine.
without some sort of mod i do not think the PAL will play, and if it does it will not play right due to the screen rate difference.
even if you make the disc region free so it will play that will not change the screen rate.
There is a program called DVD RegionX that will allow you to play
DVD's from any region.
You may be able to solve the PAL problem with something like Nero which you can set to force the output of the files from PAL to NTSC
and as far as VCD and SVCD i do not remember.
I think that the SVCD will play
