Poor quality Taiyo Yudens ?

I have recently purchased some TY,s(TYG02) from a reputable dealer snd have been getting very low quality scores from nero's cd-dvd speed program of about 25 on the two discs I have burned so far,but I also have some verbs with the same media code which have been getting quality scores of 95.
Does anyone know what the hell is going on.?

Where did you buy them?
Are they plain or do they have printing on them?
What is printed on the hub?

I to have some TY02 discs they are verbs from blankdiscshop (svp). I've got quite a few with hign scores on the Nero cd speed even when burning at 4X. Is this normal for TY02 discs?

sounds like a "bad batch" over there in the UK~ :) both catfreak and i are in the U.S., so, creaky and gurnard would be better fit to answer your quality questions regarding SVP :)
i know that creaky gets the Verb Taiyo Yuden produced with the TYG02 coding on them and he's had GREAT success with them...i think he also burns @4x like you do bubble, hence the HIGH SCORES you are getting running Nero tests; yes, it's "normal" for TYs to perform VERY well~ :)
hmm...sinstar, how fast are you burning to them and what drive are you using? i'm just curious as i've heard SVP is VERY reputable over there in your neck of the woods...i dunno what to tell ya~ your TYs are definitely GENUINE according to ur hub coding, i can tell you THAT MUCH for sure... :)

Hi kivory,I am using a Lite-on SOHW-1673S to burn my discs and I always burn at 8x and have never experienced any problems.
The only other possibility is that my drives firmware has never been upgraded as I am from the school of "if it aint broke dont fix it",but I dont see how that could effect different results on what is effectively the same dye.
I remain very puzzled.

I don't know why you're getting a low quality of 25 on Yuden media, but all of my genuine YUDEN000T02 are 95 on Quality Score and only 2 on PI Failures. Go here http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/262544 for some High Quality media scans versus low/cheap scans.

I will give the firmware upgrade a try kivory,as I dont really have anything to lose.
I will post my result after I upgrade.

my LG 4163B does 8x faultlessly on my Verb TYG02 discs, have done quite a lot at 8x, however today 2 went splat on me. both were at the lead-in stage; the first time i didn't notice as had kicked off the burn and was busy on my other 2 PC's, however when i went to check Nero, it had spent literally 20mins at the lead-in stage. 2coasters and 2 poweroffs later i don't wanna risk it any more. so am back to 4x again. Argh why oh why is DVD burning soooo annoying ;0

Good news doc,I upgraded my drives firmware today and three flawless 8x burns later the prognosis is looking very good.
All three discs got excellent scores with nero's cd/dvd speed program so it looks as if the problem has been resolved.
All that remains to be said now is;
Taiyo Yudens ~ I'm a believer
