This week as most of you know office max has a sale on its dvd media and a dvd burner and I just wanted to know if either were worth buying the burner is a
Lite-On 16x Dvd+/-R/RW Internal Drive
Is this a good dvd burner for the price of 59.99, and does it have the option to do booktyping/BIT SETTING???

The media is Verbatim 50 Pack 16x DVD-R or DVD+R for only 14.99
are either of these worth buying for the price or if so which type the plus or minus type???

Media price is good, on 30 cents for Verbatim disk!
Can do better on burners. Newegg.com has BenQ, NEC, Pioneer, burners in the $39.95 range, and may even have your comparable Liteon as well.

on the contrary, i have had my lite-on sohw-812s for 2+ years and have copied about a thousand discs flawlessly and all new lite-ons can booktype which is good but if you were willing to go online they do have lite-ons for 39.99 + 2 shipping at www.newegg.com.
I am not willing to buy online because it is easier to take back if something is wron so i just might pick one up there my self and verbatim dvds for 14.99 is excellent.second best only to taiyo yuden which you almost have to go online to find.

@dipset,

i have 3 liteon drives...SOHW-1633S, SOHW-1693S and a rebadged Sony which is actually the 1633S Liteon i mentioned earlier (i have both the Sony and the OEM 1633S drive) that i use as my main burner today~ :) i like the quality of Liteons personally, but, there are MANY other choices online as stated by the others for a BETTER PRICE~ :)

newegg is always where i check first for availability and pricing, they are very competitive, have purchased about 5 drives from them over the last few years~ :) haven't been disappointed yet.

as to the Verbs, that's a great price, even if you don't get the burner, try to get the Verbatims...great quality for an affordable price~

docTY~

the Verbatims are MORE THAN LIKELY (90% sure) going to be MIT = MADE IN TAIWAN~ :) since you are here in the U.S., you are NOT going to find any MIJ=made in japan Verbatims here...Europe, that is a diff. story w/ the Verbatim TYs (Taiyo Yuden produces the media under the Verbatim brand name- Creaky has MANY MANY of these) :)

good luck

oh yes indeed re the Taiwan disks though it seems a long time since i bought some.... :)

and as for the Verb TY, shall be ordering a load more of those tomorrow, a little voice inside my head is saying 'buy 16 tubs of 25' (i'm sure they come from Japan in long thin boxes of 8 tubs so it's a sensible amount to go for..).. will mull it over, trouble is i haven't got room for any more. just don't want svp to stop finding supplies of them, don't want any other kinds of discs now, just the gorgeous Verb TY
