OK, so just when I've been telling friends that the DL Ritek discs are fantastic I hit a batch of four straight discs which are bad. They burned OK with Decrypter but all failed when I verified them and all froze up at some point during playback.

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience trying to get replacements after contacting Ritek. I realize I may be pissing in the wind but some companies (Fuji being an example) actually respond to complaints about bad discs. Thx.

while i have never actually CONTACTED Ritek directly, if you bought the Ritek DL media from an authorized Ritek dealer, such as supermediastore.com, meritline.com, rima.com (not 100% sure about rima); they have like a 30 day guarantee for replacements if the media is faulty as you described...

for example, supermediastore actually goes as far as putting up their CERTIFICATION for display on being Ritek authorized.

and meritline has this clause in their Ritek Ridata offerings:
Quote:
1. Meritline is #1 Ritek e-Retailer
Meritline is the strategy partner of Ritek, the #1 distributor and internet dealer authorized and recommended by Ritek U.S.A (Advanced Media, Inc.).
2. 100% Grade A Genuine Quality Guaranteed
Meritline only ships 100% factory fresh, genuine Ritek products. No compromised product quality, no need to worry about authenticity.
3. Ritek and Meritline stand behind the products
Not happy with products you just received? Send them back and we will give you refund or replacement promptly. Your satisfaction guaranteed or your money back!
so, it depends WHERE you got your Ritek Ridatas...you could simply send it back and get a refund IF you bought from the 2 i mentioned above, im SURE other online retailers are authorized too, just not familiar with the other stores :) good luck

Thanks, docTY. I think I got them from Newegg about a month and a half or so ago. They'll probably take care of me based on past experience, but I thought I'd read somewhere that Ritek was responsive when contacted directly. Anyway, I guess a few duds here and there are to be expected given that they're not Verbatims! Thx.

:) ur welcome buddy~ :)

i guess i've been pretty lucky w/ my Ritek Ridata DVD+R DLs, i have about 100 of them after i went on my Verbatim/Ritek Ridata DL spree this last month or so, bought up WHATEVER i could get my hands on for the upcoming Christmas season~ :)

anyways, you got 4 duds IN A ROW? are these in the 25-pack of Ridata DLs spindle from newegg? i bought one of those too @ $49.99 a few weeks ago w/ free shipping and i've gone through about 17-18 of them w/ NO PROBLEMS thus far...if the remaining 6-7 are "duds", i am going to raise hell, seriously~!
i also have a case of the individually sealed w/ jewel case Ritek Ridatas, they come in a 5-pack w/ 1 free DVD+RW in there~ i bought a CASE of them (bulk order-i'm excessive like that) LOL and they have ALL performed great w/ no "coasters" so far~

i've read in a couple of places where people were having problems with the spindle packed ones, while very few problems with the individually sealed 1 pack ones...weird...i don't know what to make of it? the only reason I personally recommend them is that they've worked VERY well for me, while i admit the Verbatims are #1 and CAN'T be beat in the DVD+R DL dept., for those on more of a "budget" (at the time of purchase, i couldn't get any of the 10-pack verbs for $19.99 if u remember) hehe, i say go with the Ritek Ridatas

i guess it really depends on one's own setup/luck when it comes to QUALITY DISCS throughout the ENTIRE spindle, maybe this is a sign since i couldn't get the Verbs 10-pack @ $19.99 for so long that i've had very good luck w/ my Ritek Ridata DVD+R DLs in exchange??~ :)

give newegg a try, they've been VERY accomodating to me since i've ordered thousands of dollars over the last few years, almost ALL my computer hardware/components are from them~ :) maybe you could get a store credit/refund if you complain to them~ good luck

docTY~

Hey doc,

Yeah, it's a spindle, just like you mentioned. Inkjet-printable (I LOVE that, even if they're not hub-printable) 25-pack, bonused with a 5+1 pack. It was a nice deal... Well, at least until I got to this batch in the center. My first thought was maybe I had made a mistake. That wasn't it. I burned from an .iso with ImgBurn. So I chalked it up as a "one off," as they say. Then the second one, then the third...

So to be absolutely sure I had good data I did two things: 1) loaded the .iso in DaemonTools and checked it thoroughly. Fine. 2) burned the same .iso with a Verb DL. No problem. 1 plus 2 equals bad discs. :-(

I'll contact Newegg and I'm sure they'll take care of me. Thx, and Happy Holidays.
