What kind of media did you use? Some PS2s are picky about media.

My DVD Arsenal: BenQ DW1650 Drive, Plextor DVDRW PX-740A Drive, Nero 6.6.0.13, AnyDVD 6.1.8.4, CloneDVD2 2.9.1.2, DVD Shrink 3.2, DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0, DVDFab HD Decrypter 3.2.1.0, VobBlanker 2.1.3.0, RipIt4Me 1.7.1.0, FixVTS 1.6.0.3

Like DakotaFan said it probably is the media you used. I had the same problem and learned that early, good luck.

There is your problem. Imation media is very poor and is not recommended. I would buy better quality media like Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Sony, Ritek or Maxell. These seem to be the top choices of most of the AD members. Also, even though it's a well known name, stay away from Memorex media. It's very poor!

well ladies & gents,
the Sony DVD-R's did not work. should i try DVD+R, to get them to play in my PS2, or should i just bite the bullet and buy another DVD player?

sorry i am new at this!

or could it be that the PS2 is one of the first ones off of the shelf from 2001? could the PS2 be too old to recognize this stuff?

It may be capable of playing DVD+R media booktyped dvd-rom. No guarantee but dvd-rom is the most compatable format. Not all dvdrw drives are capable of bitsetting/booktyping. What make and model dvdrw do you have?

All my dvd movie back ups are all on Imatation DVD+R. My friends that have Sony PS2 can play all my movies, but I own a XBox and it won't play any DVD+R. It read something like "Disc Error" or "Cannot Read Disc". So far all I know is that XBox will only play the DVD-R that I have tried. Hope this helps.

That particular model is not capable of bitsetting/booktyping. It is an oem BTC. http://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters.php?DVDnameid=1190&Search=Sea... Some I/O Magic's are eg. those that are oem Ricoh's, or phillips - benq's.

You probably got nero6 oem suite 1 with your dvdrw. The burning rom should be the same as nero6 ultra you just don't get all the axtras. I bought and recommend nero6 oem suite 3 because it includes Nero recode2 which is similiar only a little better than DVD Shrink. The guy that authored DVD Shrink went to work for Nero and authored Nero recode2. You can buy nero6 oem suite 3 for about $8 and sometimes free shipping. Here's an example. http://www.bensbargains.net/ktalk/1088088242,29929,.shtml

You most likely just have a compatability issue with your PS2. DVD-R is probably the most compatable format for you to use since your dvdrw drive isn't capable of booktyping DVD+R to dvd-rom. If you want to post your last Nero log, I will look it over and see if anything needs attention. Edit out your Nero serial no. (usually starts with something like 1A22). To find the log go to C:/program files/ahead/nero/nerohistory. Copy and paste the last log.

What version is your PS2? Any PS2 version 1 - earlier 4 can not play any DVD+R, unless you book typed into DVD-ROM. On the other hand, all PS2 late version 4 - current can play both formats (DVD+R and DVD-R) flawlessly.
