Hi all,
I've just been doing a lot of dvd burns lately, and i've noticed something wierd. First off i was burning PS2 games onto Verbatim 8x DVD-R's (MCCORG20 i think) and it said in dvd decrypter that the available write speeds were 4x, 6x and 8x. Sure enough i burnt them at 4x and everyhting worked perfectly. Now im using some Ricoh 8x DVD+R's. It says the only available write speeds, well, supported write speeds, are 6x and 8x - which i dont want to write them at. Further more, when i do write them, regardless of the speed i choose, it sits around 2.7-3.0x and the speed fluctuates. The Device Buffer also goes up and down, going from 100% to 10% and back up again every few seconds. Is this normal? Is there any reason for the DVD+R's not writing at 4x or even their supported 6x?

Also my DVD Burner is an external (USB) LiteON 1693S i think. It can write DVD+R/DVD-R at 16x.

Hi there,

I never burn above 4x, even on Taiyo Yuden.

But that's my personal choice.

Now, why you can't burn those new Ricoh at 4x, is probably because your burner firmware is outdated, and or the firmware you have only supports 6x and 8x on THAT specific media id.

Latest firmware for your burner is --> KS0B

Maybe this will help get 4x on those Ricoh ? !

Hey, i've updated the firmware to KS0B - Thanks for giving me the link i went there a week ago and for some reason i couldn't download the firmware!! Every time i clicked the link it just reloaded the page and didn't download, regardless of whether i used firefox/IE and with firewall up/down. Anyway enough of that moaning... I tried to write one again and it didnt work. It still writes at a varying speed of about 2.8-3.1x and it says in DVDInfoPro that the write descriptors/supported write speeds (In DVD Decrypter) are 6x and 8x CAV. Maybe its just the disc quality? I would
