Hi folks,
Brand new to all this so please go easy with me! I'm afraid i really havent got much of a clue, so here goes...Im using Nero to burn my DVD's, but in the process of doing so i get a message saying, 'Virtual memory low...', and the burning stops and fails. Is there anyway to rectify this? I would really appreciate any help and/or pointers.
Many thanks,
Stu

Hi Axe, there are three settings on Nero, Max, 8X and 4X, i was using Max. Ive used that speed before with no problem. Ive a load of DVD's to burn, but im reluctant to in case the same thing happens again!

Burning at max speed is not recommended. It will cause studders, pixelations, and freezes in your backups. Couple that with poor media quality and you will be re-burning those movies again in 6 months or less.

It is commonly recommended that you not burn faster than 4x and use media such as Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Maxell, Sony.

Stay away from Princo, memorex and the such. They cost just as much as good media but they memosux.

A good place to visit is the DVD-/+ forum. You can learn a lot about media quality and thereby save yourself some real headaches.

Cheers.

How much RAM do you have, sounds like Nero is not finding enough and having to use your Virtual Memory. Close down as many background progams that are running and no multi-tasking and internet. As stated burn at a slower speed 4x is really best to keep the amount of errors down. Post your Nero Log with the bad burn which can be found in My Computer, Ahead, Nero and then Nero History. The bad burn log should be the last one in the history file.

To Check your Paging File, go into your control panel, then click on System, then go to the Advanced Tab, and Under ?Performance? click ?Settings? then the Advanced Tab . On the Bottom you should see ?Virtual Memory? and a value. This is the value that must be at least as large as how much memory is in your system. If the Virtual Memory Value is smaller than your system memory, click Change and change the Min Virtual Memory to a number that is greater than your total system memory, then click ?Set? and Reboot.

If that is all the ram that you have, you do have a problem. You need to upgrade your ram to 512mb minimum. Windows XP uses up to 128mb just to run the system - see image below:

Now if you have a burner drive it requires memory to run it as well.

See below:

This would leave you will very little to work with. Ram is so cheap now I would upgrade to a gig just to be sure.

Thanks 9mm, it did look pretty small to me as well! Are the RAM Modules easy to fit? I fitted my drive easy enough.

Thanks for all your help, guys.

Yeah they are easy to snap in place. Here is a link to great memory prices: http://www.pricewatch.com.

You can always try newegg.com as well.

Make sure that you get the memory that your Mobo requires. You should be able to find it in the mobo manual or goole a search for your mobo.

I know that this will solve a lot of your issues.

Cheers. I have 2gig in mine.
