format? Thanks.

huh ?

to encode to dvd. you need to resize to 720x480.
check the aspect ratio.
those really wide video needs letterbox, even for 16:9.
go check

I know that. But some AVI resolutions will convert more easily to a DVD than others. Had an AVI file 512x288 that worked great.

Errr, only for NTSC and only if you want full resolution. 720x576, 704x576, 352x576, 704x480 and 352x480 are also valid.

Unless the AVI is already a valid DVD resolution, then it requires resizing and therefor be just as easy or not easy as anything else.

once upon a time i forgot to add blackborders after resizing.
so i encoded it at 448x448 (svcd).
and burn.
my older player played jumbled up with green borders. but the new one just play it without much question. (normal dvd player)

so it depends. authoring may not be possible. but if you have a player that can play mpeg off the disc. go aheead and try.

These are the Acceptable Resolutions for makeing DVD"s for NTSC...

720x480 Full D1.......2.5 hours per DVD at 4000kbs(Full DVD Quality)
704x480 Broadcast D1..2.5 hours per DVD at 4000kbs(Full DVD Quality)
352x480 Half D1.......4.0 Hours per DVD at 2500kbs(SVCD Quality)
352x240 SIf/CIF.......6.0 Hours per DVD at 1600kbs(VCD Quality)

What I do to determine what Resolution to use when makeing a DVD is to select the DVD Standard Closest to the Resolution of your Source File as you don"t want to resize a Low resolution file to a High Resolution as this will Degrade the Quality so I find it is best to keep the UP-Resizeing to a Minimum.....
