From what microsoft said theres about 3% defective ones. If thats true it means its not bad at all considering most electronics have a defect rate of 5-6%.
Although we don't know if microsoft is being truthful, it might be more systems. We see alot of reports on sites and forums, but alot of it is just same stuff being said over and over.
I would not be worried about getting a deffective product, and even if u do MS has great customer service. From what i heard they overnight u a prepaid box which u overnight back to them. From there they fix your problem or replace your box, shouldn't take more than 3-5 days. After that they overnight it back to you. Thats alot more than i can say for sony. I remember when ps2 came out and my cousins was messed up, it took 5-6 weeks to get a new one, that and he had to pay for shipping.

I sent my core system to MS today. After 4 days of game play it suddenly stopped working. When turning the system on, all I got was the 3 out of 4 quadrants of red lights. I tried the basic troubleshooting to no avail. I then called MS support and was told to send the console in. Good to their word, they overnighted me a box to send the console back - overnight shipping pre-paid. MS customer support told me they'd get a repair or replacement back to me within 5 business days - we'll see how it works out.

Well, mine went to Harlingen (sp?). Close enough to McAllen? I sent it on 12/5, hopefully I'll get one back in the next day or two. I'm very curious as to whether they'll send me the same one repaired, or send me a different refurb or a new unit. Also, I wonder how long it will be before we have any idea of exactly what the problem is with these things. Mine worked perfectly for the first 20 hours or so then just shut down. When I tried to restart it all I got was the three quadrants of red lights. I went through the troubleshooting suggestions (disconnect all the cables, reconnect) and it started up ok again but only for a few minutes. After that, it shut down again and would only show the three quads of red lights. Being a PC DIY guy I was sorely tempted to open the thing up and see if some component had fried but didn't want to void the warranty! The sad thing is is that I'll probably never know what the problem with the unit was.

I got my Xbox back today. MS was true to their word, it's been 5 business days since I sent my broken one back to them. The interesting thing is that they sent me back a premium console to replace the broken core console I returned! Just plugged in the new one and it's working fine so far. As of now, my only prob is that I've got two hard drives, the one I bought for the original core and the new one that came back with the premium box.

It's a problem to have 2 HDs? :) I would say that's your repayment for having to deal with the defective box. :)

I was wondering after microsoft sends you back the repaired xbox 360, do they specify if they repaired it or if they replaced it?
