OK I know that this is a DVDShrink forum but about a week ago I decided to try Nero Recode with AnyDVD! What a pleasant surprise. Faster inital analysis, deep analysis and encoding with the same great result!
Anyone else got anything to say about Recode?

Nero Recode is faster and provides better results.
The same person who created DVD Shrink, created Nero Recode 2 as well. That is why the development of DVD Shrink ended. (That is why they look and act very similar!)

I am a big fan of Recode and am glad to see others are starting to discover its merits as well. I use it for about 80% of my backups.

Nero Recode 2 for me hands down..!!! Again, I am not dissin' DVD Shrink (I will always have a soft spot for the love on DVD Shrink), but times changes and people changes, so yeah... I prefer Nero Recode 2. It's much faster, its encoding and analyzing engine is/are truly awesome (it's fast plus great quality pictures).
In the end, the choice is all yours!!

Recode2 has give me errors at the end of movies too many times. I use CloneDVD2 now.

I love Recode2! And being a previous Shrink user made it that much easier when I "made the switch"
I also noticed that the quality of Recode is very good also.

I prefer CloneDVD2 with AnyDVD now, Simple to use and all of the features I need. Been using it now for several years and very few if any problems.

Recode is now the only one I will use. If you have time on your hands use DVD Shrink. It takes 2 to 3 times longer to encode. But I will have to say, It's a whole lot cheaper!!

Am I correct in saying that recode does not remove any macro protection, so therefore backups of discs are pretty limited?

Just use AnyDVD in the background and all protection is disabled!

I assume you get Nero recode 2 inside of Nero 7? Before I go and download and install it, I figured I'd better besure. I'd like to give it a shot, however I'm a little hesitant since I have Nero oem on my computer now and it likes to blue screen me whenever I try several option (like dvd speed test). It's a ledgit copy (got it with a burner) and I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times. And I think my dell even came with it installed? Either way I would like to give recode 2 a shot, so if someone will confirm where you get/purchase it.
Thanks

Nero Recode is part of the "Nero 6 Ultra Edition" and "Nero 7 Ultra Edition". You have to install Nero 6 or 7, then go to the Nero website and download the update. (You would need to download "Update-Package 2") - http://www.nero.com/nero6/enu/nero-up.php

ScubaPete listed well over a year ago how to use Recode2 along with AnyDVD for movie only with titles. That's how I have been doing my movies as well. I've run into a glitch with just a couple of movies, (Sony of course,) so then I return back to DVD Decrypter in file mode then back to Recode2 for movie only after that.

I don't really see the point in using Recode since the only advantage over DVD Shrink appears to be the 'burn direct to disc' option which for me only produces coasters. If you use the option for ripping and analysing first the process does exactly what Shrink does so where's the advantage?

Is there a good guide to using Recode? I tried the Nero and Doom9 but pretty limited.
How do u just go to an Iso file with just main menu copied?
Also where do the recoded files get stored?
How do u burn the files to disc after?
Thanks,
Sandy

I choose copy dvd main movie only like with shrink. Then I choose to burn with destination folder as Hard drive folder and Target folder as folder with name of movie. When i finish recode I go to burn files with Nero Rom and get error that files will not be DVD compatible. How do I set up to just get an ISO file which I can later burn to disc with Nero like with Shrink?
Thanks

Strat,
Thanks, that's helpful. I have AnyDVD, can't I just skip the decrypter step?
Thanks,
Sandy
