I'd like to start direct printing on DVDs using an Epson Stylus. But what about all the DVDs and CDs I labelled with a Sharpie? Can I remove the permanent ink using a stain remover like AMODEX? The key is to remove the perm ink stain without damaging the video or audio info on the other side of the disk. Your informed comments appreciated.

First off, your old DVD's that you labeled with a sharpie have to "Printable" DVD's. Not just any blank DVD can be printed on.

I have a Canon printer and the discs I use are Verbatim Ink jet printable...use good media. The labled Discs will not be able to be printed as any marks or even fingerprints can ruin the end result. You can obtain some excellent covers from www.cdcovers.cc

I too had a couple of older burned DVDs that I had written on and wanted to cover up once I got my Epson R200. I'm guessing that the DVD's you wrote on were not the inkjet printable kind so you are going to need labels. Before putting the lable on I used rubbing alcohol on a Q-Tip. You'll find that it reduces the marks enough that you can't see it through the label after printing.

If you have the same printer, I put the label onto the DVD and print using the DVD tray. It is way too much trouble to try and figure out were to print on the label sheet when the software for the printer is set up to print directly on the DVD,

By the way... Check out the Wintergreen rubbing alcohol. Its a heck of a lot more pleasant.
