I tried War of the Worlds using DVD Shrink and DVD Decrytper - didn't work due to copy right protection. Used DVD Fab Decrypter, then DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter and it worked, but when I used the re-author function (which I had to do because the disc was burned to the hard drive already and I could not use the full disc function), when I tried to drag the menu items over, there was a sign stating that the menu screens would not be functional, but would only be a video clip.
When I have burned other (older) movies using DVD Shrink and decrypter, I had the option of making a full disc copy and the menus came out just like the original. Why can't I do it with Fab Decrypter and the re-author function on DVD Shrink?

Using DVDShrink, as soon as you use "Reauthor mode," the menus lose all functionality. That has always been true.
You can still have them appear, but only as a still image.
There are ways of getting what you want, but they all involve the use of other programs. I prefer VobBlanker for this. There are also several other programs that can be used for the same result.

Hi all,
I burned War of the Worlds using DVDD (main movie only)and Shrink together. I watched it the other day and there were no problems at all.

Okay, there is now a bit of potentially confusing information contained in this thread. Let me see if I can back up and clarify a couple of things...
1.) Your original thread states you had problems with War of the Worlds, and that you had these problems due to copy protection. However, "War of the Worlds" Region 1 does not have the new Sony ARccOS copy protection, nor does it have the new Macrovision copy potection called "RipGuard." It does not even have the "running boy / jumping boy" structure protection on it. It is basically no different than the usual DVDs which have been released for the past three or four years.
DVDShrink on its own can handle it. That is, it can handle the original "ripping" directly from the original DVD. I know this to be true because that is the method I used, and a quick search will find numerous threads where others also verified they used DVDShrink on its own. A lot of other people used DVDDecrypter on its own, again with no problems. No need for AnyDVD, or DVD43 to be running in the background. No need for DVDFabDecrypter to be used (by the way, DVDFabDecrypter would work, but that program would also keep going if you ran into a lot of physical flaws or scratches or bad spots on the disc, and it would never tell you that there might be some pretty serious flaws in the ripped version).
If you had problems using just DVDShrink, on its own, with no other program running in the background, then I would suggest you first try to clean the disc. Then, perhaps try DVDDecrypter, simply because I have seen cases where DVDDecrypter managed to rip a disc that was too dirty or smudged or scratched for DVDShrink. If you still have errors, then I would suggest taking the disc back as it sounds as if it must be damaged (perhaps a bad unintentional mastering error).
Here is one thread where several people mention the fact that DVDShrink can be used on this disc with no problems, all by itself, and also that DVDDecrypter can be used on this disc with no problems, all by itself:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260695
2.) Your original post states the following:
>>>>>>"Used DVD Fab Decrypter, then DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter and it worked, but when I used the re-author function (which I had to do because the disc was burned to the hard drive already and I could not use the full disc function), when I tried to drag the menu items over, there was a sign stating that the menu screens would not be functional, but would only be a video clip." <<<<<
I am confused about this statement: "but when I used the re-author function (which I had to do because the disc was burned to the hard drive already and I could not use the full disc function)..."
You can rip a DVD using DVDFabDecrypter, and then use DVDShrink to open the results (in file mode). If you do this, you do NOT have to use re-author mode. DVDShrink should open this rip exactly the same as it might open any original DVD (at least on discs such as this one). You should find yourself in "Full Disc" mode, and then you have the OPTION of choosing to enter "REAUTHOR" mode, but only if you choose.
3.) Finally, since your original post asked about this, I will again repeat what I stated above in my eearlier response, regarding DVDShrink and the menus. Using DVDShrink, as soon as you use "Reauthor mode," (which is always just an option), the menus lose all functionality. That has always been true with DVDShrink.
You can still have those menus appear on your burned backup copy, using DVDShrink in REAUTHOR mode, but only as a still image.
There are ways of getting what you want, if you want menus to be functional while re-authoring and selecting the parts you wish, but they all involve the use of other programs. I prefer VobBlanker for this. There are also several other programs that can be used for the same result.
Hope this is clear,
-Bruce

yup, worked for me, AnyDVD running and used dvddecrypter, then burned w/ shrink
apparently i decryp in iso mode...then there are 2 iso folders, 1 is huge, the other is about 9k. i just move the big folder to shrink and it burns fine.
only one i have trouble w/ this is "lords of dogtown" working on it right now.

If you find an answer to Lords of Dogtown that would be great. I've been trying to copy this movie for (2) days now to no avail. I'm trying a trial version of dvdcopy4 now. Shink, dvdclone,Nero recode, all kept giving me the "crc" error during analysis. I have posted a thread regarding this but none of the suggestions have worked so far.
