What exactly are the PI Errors, PI Failures, Jitter? And what are acceptable, good, and great levels?
I had a Verbatim MCC 004 (000) 16X
Here is what DVD Identifier says about it:
---------------------------------------------------------
Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD+R:MCC-004-000]
---------------------------------------------------------
Disc & Book Type : [DVD+R] - [DVD+R]
Manufacturer Name : [Mitsubishi Chemical Corp.]
Manufacturer ID : [MCC]
Media Type ID : [004]
Product Revision : [Not Specified]
Blank Disc Capacity : [2,295,104 Sectors = 4.70 GB (4.38 GiB)]
Recording Speeds : [1x-2.4x , 4x , 6x-8x , 6x-16x]
I got a 15 on the Quality Score! I thought these were suppose to be good DVD's? I would take it this DVD won't be of much use soon? It does play in my DVD player btw.

Go here http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/262544 for more information on high quality media vs crap/low quality scans. Anyways, below are my top media -- these scans are awesome, and is consider high quality, with only 2 PI Failures and a Quality Score of 95.
Here's the famous genuine Taiyo Yuden
Here's the top notch Verbatim
Here's the Maxell High Grade by Hitachi (made in japan)

@h2
what speed are you burning those MCC004's at? if you are burning @ max speed, meaning 16x, i would DEFINITELY consider slowing your burns down..that MAY be the reason WHY you are getting such a poor quality score~ :) i get great scans burning them @8x, just FYI~
give it a try, this is one of the few cases where i would NOT burn @ max speed, i have the same drive as you and all my scans of the Verb. 16x MCC004 is very similar to alkohol's w/ a quality score of 95~ :) ur max. PI failures should be 2, nothing higher...

Burning at 4X.
I noticed if I look at a New DVD (burn side) I can see what looks like imperfections on every disk at the outer layer. This could be a defect in the mfg. process?

sure sounds like it if you SEE the "defect" visibly ON THE DYE itself~ :(
i don't think your particular batch is a "normal" one...since you stated Quote: I can see what looks like imperfections on every disk at the outer layer
sounds like a "bad batch" to me, while this usually doesn't happen often, it DOES IN FACT happen with EVERY manufacturer out there from time to time~ :P

It could also be that you have something eunnung in the background .. a screensaver, an anti-virus mproggy, a pop-up blocker, a spyware blocker or even spyware. Any or all of these can cause imperfections in the burned surface ...

You know when I use AnyDVD with CloneDVD I get perfect burns even with all the stuff running.
I only get the errors when using Nero Recode. Guess Nero needs more HP than CloneDVD.
Anyway I'll stop the above mentioned items next time I burn and see how Nero does then.
Thank you so much for all the replies.
