You have to save the log when you get the error from Nero - you can choose where to save it. Then use copy and paste to post it here.

I didnt save it unfortunatley and I really dont want to waste another TY just to get the error again. Is there a way I can still get the error log? If not, before there was somebody who told me to paste my Nero history and he told me all the things wrong with my drive. That was a long time ago.

							Look in:
 My Computer
Local Disc (C:)(or what ever letter your main hard drive is assigned)
 Program Files
 Ahead
 Nero
 and finally
 NeroHistory.log

Try updating your Nero burning rom. Also, you might need to download the SMC patch, too. What are you trying to burn?

Are you using NeroVision Express 3 when you get the error? If not, you don't need it. If you are, then you can get it right here:

 http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/Patch_for_NVE3.html

Have you tried uninstalling the drive in device manager, and then restarting your computer and reinstalling it? Worth a try.

Had you updated your firmware when this started failing? Were there any problems when you had done so.

I had a big problem with my computer and I had to use a Noron Ghost copy to recover it back to the way it was when it was built. The person that built my computer put a couple different softwares on it before he did the Ghost Copy which of them being Nero Enterprise Edition. It always worked fine. Since recovery my firmware was outdated and I updated to the latest one BSOS. Now its showing errors- Illegal Disc.
All of this should show in my Nero History

Adouble11 - you have given the logs for ALL your recent burns, including the sucessful ones. Firstly look here:-
quote-
'Allow pathdepth more than 8 directories : TRUE
Allow more than 255 characters in path : TRUE
 Write ISO9660 ;1 file extensions : TRUE'

All of these settings should be FALSE meaning the boxes should be unchecked since you are risking the discs not being readable in many players. Also there is the outside chance that these settings might interfer with the burn process. To change them you need to go to the ISO box in Nero Burning Rom before burning and unchecking those settings.

Secondly the two failed burns show quite clearly that you were trying to burn an illegal disc. What disc were you trying to copy?

I followed the directions " Checking if your drive is in DMA mode"
and my settings are exactly correct according to this guide. I'm not positive what it means by "right click on both controllers and click uninstall." I right clicked on my Secondary IDE channel, but I was hesitant to uninstall my driver so I didnt do it. Any advice?

							@Adouble 11
You suppose to "uninstall" your driver(s) that has DMA turned to Off or PIO Mode. Once you restarted your computer, windows will automatically detects and reinstall it for you.

Try this guide on how to troubleshoot and or enable your DMA back On.

((To enable DMA back ON by "uninstalling" its driver ?for Win XP users? by alkohol))

Here are some helpful pictures for references.

 A) on "DESKTOP" right click on "MY COMPUTER," left click on "PROPERTIES"

 B) left click on "HARDWARE," left click on "DEVICE MANAGER"

 C) left click on + sign of IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers

 D) double left click on either ?Primary? or ?Secondary IDE Channel?

 E) left click on "DRIVER," left click on "UNINSTALL"

You will see a "Warning: you are about to uninstall this device from your system," just click "OK," now "SHUTDOWN" or "Restart" your computer
 F) once you restarted your computer, Windows should automatically detect your DVD burner?s drive and re-install it for you. That's it...easy as smoking!!

**NOTE: do these steps only if the above process failed to bring DMA back on, or you can do exactly like the above steps, except this time you "Uninstall" it from the ?DVD/CD-ROM Drives?

 ****at Device Manager****
 (A) left click on + sign of DVD/CD-ROM Drives
 (B) double left click on your DVD burner or your DVD-ROM drive
 (C) click on "DRIVER," "UNINSTALL," "OK" and then "Shutdown" or "Restart" your computer. That's it... easy as smoking!!!

@ Discmania...Yes I unchecked/ checked the boxes, but didn't try another burn yet. I would like to try to fix as much things so I don't waste any more discs, but thanks for asking.
@ alkohol...this is the same guide I used, but I was hesitant to uninstall my drivers, but if Windows will install themselves than I will give it a shot.

I uninstalled my drivers and there is a problem installing them when I restart my computer. It says:
 Cannot Install this Hardware

There was a problem installing this hardware

 IDE channel

An error occurred during the installation of the device

Driver is not intended for this platform.

I'm not going to try any burns until this is resolved because I'm not going to waste any TY's. Please assist me as to why this is not working properly.

 Thanks

Try checking that the internal IDE cable is securely fastened to your burner and motherboard inside your PC. You will be suprised by how often this can come loose. Also make sure the power cable is securely fastened to the burner. You should invest in a DVD-RW disc when problems like this occur. If the problem recurs during a burn you just erase the disc and start again.

I did a burn yesterday and it worked? I'm guessing all my cables are plugged in properly if I successfully did a burn. But my drivers are still not installed?
