ANother program to look at is CloneDVD2 and AnyDVD. both are available at www.slysoft.com and have good free trial periods, also come with a generous discount if you use the Afterdawn promo code/link http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/anyd...

also remember you are tranfering a dvd-9 to a dvd-5 so if you do the complete dics your compression is going to be high and the quality of the backed up dvd will not be that great so consider using DL media or doing the movie only. and yes clone dvd 2 with anydvd is the best and easiest way to backup your dvds use this guide

http://bbmayo.home.comcast.net/

remember to use good media (Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim) and burn a 4x

Ya, completely agree with aabbccdd ... forget compression! Those days are all but over. A hold over from when media was too expensive to split a movie onto two SL disks or burn DL disks. And your compressed backups will look like crap when you upgrade to HDTV and play them in Progressive Mode.

And forget the freeware too. Buy the CloneDVD2/AnyDVD combo deal. Forget CloneCD, you won't use it.

Although DL media still seems expensive, if one is a wise shopper it can be had for $1.50 (US) or less per disk. Be sure you have a burner that will booktype +R DL media to finalize (by default) in DVD-ROM format. Don't ever buy Memorex! Test to be ABSOLUTELY SURE what DL media your burner and standalone player like to eat. Then wait, wait, wait for a sale with a good online or store price and then spend a few hundred dollars stocking up when the right sale comes along. Within a year you will be buying TY, Verbatim and Sony DL media in 50 disk spindles for $1 a disk.

Verbatim DL is the way to go its on sale about every week somewhere and can be had for about 2 bucks a disc and actually the memorex DL code out as Ritek which is good media but i would still stick with the Verbatim for sure i dont want any media that has memorex stamped on it no matter what it codes out as lol!!!

Agree aabbccdd, but trouble with coding out Memorex is they seem to use a different supplier every month(!) so there is no brand consistancy. The regulars at cdfreaks totally freak if you mention Memorsux! Verbatim DL is their #1 preference too.

Notice you are friends with Rotary. Is he the same Rotary who used to post at the AD DXC forums in bygone times? I think he might have been one of Ireland's ragtags. I might be wrong.
