I have been trying to copy some of the back-up dvds that I had previously made using dvd shrink. I try to copy the movie and on some of them I get an error that says data error (cyclic redundancy check). The disc isn't scratched or dirty. What could be causing this and is there anything I can do to fix it and finish the back-up?

#1, you might have used bad media to start with.

#2, You might try Lightning UK's "old" software, DVD Decrypter. It has some good "Power Settings" for ripping DVDs.

Good luck

Agree with above wise-men. Crappy media is hard to re-backup and they rot away and become unplayable even in a standalone player after a while. Also, assuming a backup has already been decrypted, using a decrypting software (AnyDVD, Decrypter, DVD43, Shrink etc) can stop a backup of a backup. Try CloneDVD or Nero or other similar program without a decryptor included in the software or a separate decrypter running.

Best regards,
Whisperer

MSOV1986:
What is the brand name and model# of your DVD-RW drive?
What is the brand name/format/and speed rate of those backups?
How fast did you burn them?

For re-ripping backups, quality media and a 4x burn speed is a must on that first backup copy. Too many errors,or in the wrong place, then you'll get those crc read errors.

Another thing I notice after using 6 different DVD-RW drives,is the burner quality. Some of them will give you those little errors, despite using the quality media. To re-rip them, you want to keep those little errors down to as little as possible on that first copy.

Use DVD Decrypter. Set it up for rip with brute force and ignore all read errors.I haven't had any luck with it,but some peeps have.

Like stated above, Verbatim, or Taiyo Yuden are the best.

Lawndog: I know the japanese spindles of 8x fuji in both formats are taiyo yuden. Ty-g02 in the dash and Yudenooo-T02 for the plus. Now on their taiwanese spindles, these will be fuji-film03/prodisc/Maybe ritek-r03. The riteks would be very good, can't say the same about the fuji-film03 and prodisc fujis. That's why it's best to pick out those japanese spindles when it comes to fuji media..Lots of different manufacturers are among them.
