hi, i have copied a few games on PS2, using various programs (alcohol, clone cd, etc). have had mixed results. all the games copied ok but when i start to play them the game freezes badly.
what is the best format of media to use, DVD-R or DVD+R, and what brand is the best for use with the PS2.
thank you

hi,
the best type for ps2 games is DVD-R. some newer ps2's can read DVD+R, but you,ll have a better chance of success with DVD-R. the best brands are as follows:
1. Taiyo Yuden - widely considered to be THE best DVD media for any recording purposes. there are a lot of fake TY discs around so make sure you are buying from a trusted seller.
2. Verbatim - second to TY but still very good and a bit cheaper than TY's. one of the few cases where taiwanese media is any good.
3. Maxell (MADE IN JAPAN - NOT TAIWAN)
STAY AWAY from Memorex and Imtation and any other cheap or unbranded media, i made that mistake and i'm now the proud owner of 125 shiny drink mats with 'Imatation' printed on the underside. a forum topic to deter you even further from giving into the teptation of comprimising quality for price: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/2/262544

thans for your help. i have been using DVD-R, white label datasafe disks. they have been fine with movies but not much luck with PS2 games. i will give Taiyo Yuden a try then. can you suggest a cheap website where i can get them from that can be trusted not to supply fakes?

I have a version 6 ps2 and it does play DVD+R, but I stick to -r. I've used Verbatim and Memorex brands, and they both worked fine. Do rip and burn properly, though.

DVD+R is better for your PS2, it'll read it better, depends on what version...just booktype it to DVD-ROM and burn with DVD Decrypter...I use RiData DVD+R 8X's. And I burn always at 6X and they work better than good since my +R's only support write speeds of 6X and 8X.

TYs are good. I don't think anybody who's looked around the media forum will buy Memorex, but what was I going to do, lie and say they didn't work?
