A am still a newbie to this forum so I apologize if this has been asked already...

I have seen other posts with CD/DVD codes and am not sure where to look for these when purchasing media.

In otherwords I know places overseas make the media, sell it to companies like Sony where they in turn put their own sticker on it (contract manufacturing)

Also it seems the consensus is

TY
Verbatim
Ritek

Are the better ones out there to buy...Is this a fair assessment.

Personally I have been buying TDK's, Memorex and when burning coasters I thought it was due to my Recorder (I/O Magic) but perhaps it was actually the media???

my Recorder (I/O Magic)
I/O magic, just like most media, has their drives outsourced to different manufacturers. I know I/O uses benq/empa/and BTC on some of their 16x internal drives. Let us know the exact model#. Go to device manager under DVD-RW drive/dvdidentifier/nero/dvdinfopro/or DVD Decrypter.Any of those will tell you the model#. It may be a generic name like IDE/ATAPI 16x DVD-RW or something like that.

Those issues are likely crap media. TDK and Memorex aren't exactly the quality stuff. We can get you a heck of a lot better stuff for even cheaper! There's some good sales on this week at Office depot/Walgreens/and bestbuy.

Burn speed can also be a factor. That crap media has a harder time at the faster burn speeds.Stand alone players can pick the defects in this crap media up as well.Stand alones magnify the problems of the low quality media.

I like your list of ty/verbatim/and ritek. Another to look for is the spindles of maxells that are made in japan. These are made by hitachi in the 8x speed. Hitachi are excellent media. I'm not sure what format you are looking for,but quality can vary between formats as well as different pack quantities. Look for the japanese spindles of Fuji/maxell/and Sony for some very good quality media, and lots of tys and hitachi are among them.
