hi

EASY!

use dvd decrypter on ISO read then swittch to ISO write! select the .MDS file to burn as it carries the layer break info

also depends if dvd decrypter can rip the encrytion out or not? could try anyDVD running in the background if it doesnt?

Nothing here to see, move along folks.

As Rotary suggested Decrypter or you may want to try LUK's more updated burning program ImgBurn which you can get at http://www.imgburn.com The process is the same for either program and here is a guide for Decrypter.

Wish ImgBurn was a ripper, but it is not so you still got to rip first. But LUK has made a lot of changes to the burning part of Decrypter which is now ImgBurn and there is more support for Dual Layer burning in the new program.

If you are doing a 1.1 copy the target size does not matter there is no compression needed everything will fit.

Good Morning AfterDawner's, Here is the method i used to make a 1:1 backup of War of the worlds and Constantine....

Medium used:Verbatim DVD+R DL Disk's
Burner used:Lite-On DVDRW SOHW-1693s

1.AnyDVD running in the background!!
2.DVD Decrypter
3.DVDShrink
4.NERO

1.Put in movie to be backed up and let "anydvd" do its magic, then open DVDD and in the mode tab select ISO-Read. Then go to the tools tab and select settings and here under the general tab i have selected "AGRESSIVE" for the removal method.
All the other settings i left at the default settings.
Then select your "file destination"So you know where it went and where you can find it->I save my files in a folder called "DVDWork"
Remember to rip in ISO mode and not IFO! Click the write button and let DVDD do its job.......Close DVDD after it completes cycle.

2.After your movie is safely ripped to your hard drive remove the disk from your drive and put it back in its case :-). Now put in your DL Media make sure its good Media cause expensive coaster's "SUCK!!".

{2.a} Now open up DVDShrink and go to the File tab click and select "Open disk image" in the folder where you saved the ISO files you will see 2 files there one is the ISO file and the other is the ".MDS file" this is the file you want to select because the .MDS file contains the layer breaks you need for your DL DVD..Click ok and shrink will then analize your movie..

{2.b} After this you will see the movie files on the left window and the languages on the right, Now because you chose the .MDS file there should be no compression needed... Now go to the edit tab and select "preferences" and for the Target size select "Custom" and input 7980 and click ok...Then we go to the "backup tab" here shrink will ask you for a destination for the temporary files (I made a new folder called dvdfiles and selected this folder for the temp files)Then for the Backup Target i just selected my DVDBurner and not the ISO and burn with decrypter option..Then go to the BURN settins tab and for the BURN speed i set it to 2.4x and i checked the "BURN AT LEAST 30mm" setting then clicked ok and shrink will encode your movie.

{2.c} After the encoding is done "NERO" will open(i have NERO 6 installed)and proceed to burn your movie, you can then watch the log as it burns or go get some coffee :-D after the BURN it should eject your disk and you should have a shiny 1:1 backup of you fav flick!!

I hope this will help...
Credit needs to go to the Great ScubaPete for the custom target size. WOOT!!!! As i found the target size suggestion on his web page.

And if the Mod's here find this worthy mabey they can go through the steps i have provided and rewrite this with some pictures included................ :-)

PCDAD,
Glad you did the movies but you used a lot of programs to do essentially what DVDDecrypter could do by itself w/ AnyDVD running in the background. You might want to try it this way

1.In DVDDecrypter go to Tools> setings>General> untick Check for Structure protection

2.Now go to I/O and tick ELBYCDIO-Elaborate Bytes

3.Enable AnyDVD

4.Now insert Movie( foxes head turns red) and go to Mode in DVDD>Iso read> click the decrypt button. It will create 2 files- image and a .mds file

5.After ripping turn AnyDVD off ( right click taskbar foxes head and click on exit)

6.In DVDD>Mode>.iso write find the .mds file you created and click on it and the hit the write button

I have found DVDDecrypter or Imgburn find the layer break better than Shrink or Nero but if you are happy w/ your method then by all means use it

Hi, Thanx for the info, But imgburn didnt work for me on that burn, It was just trial and error on my part and was asked to share how i did it is all... Although i appreciate the advice.... :-)

Why would you turn off ANYDVD??
Also DVDD and Imgburn still use nero to burn dont they??

@PCDAD

DVDD is a ripper and burner itself.
Imgburn is a burner only. Neither uses Nero to burn.

DVDShrink would use Nero to burn if burn w/nero is selected in shrinks preferences.

Imgburn is an updated version of DVDD's burn engine. I have set my shrink up to burn with imgburn. If I want to rip to hd I still have to use DVDD or DVDFab or CloneDVD.

PCDAD,
DVDD and Imgburn have their own burn engines. DVDDecrypter is a ripping and .iso burning program only. Imgburn is only an iso burning program. You turn off AnyDVD so it does not bother the burn in process. If you use the 2 programs to burn Nero is not used as it is not necessary.

Glad though you got the movie on d/l media and it works

Ok, So what your saying is that shrink has its own burn engine?? If burn with nero is unticked that is.

I was under the assumption that DVDD used nero to./8[

I guess thats why im here to learn :-] I wonder why imgburn didnt work then?????

Shrink does not have a burn engine at all. If you untick burn w/ Nero then there is no burning using Shrink in File mode. The files are put on the HD for you to burn using whatever program you have.

I have a question that I'd like to expand on this thread if thats alright. I just built my new last night. And after doing some reading, kept seeing a bit about booktyping and bitsetting. Now, when i put a DVD+R DL in my burner, the drive goes for a dvd icon to a cd icon. and Nero wont let me change the bitsetting. there is no bitsetting for my samsung 162c drive. is booktyping necessary, or is that just for compatibility? where as just try one without in my standalone players and see if they work?

thanks for any info guys.

and if anyone has more info about my issue with bitsetting the drive is a samsung sh-w162c (t-10 firmware, using nvidia ide drivers)
