I am fairly novice in the CDR arena and recently I burnt a few CDs with .JPEG and .AVI files. I get the CRC error when trying to copy and/or open these files. I am able to randomly get to these files, but for the most part I get the Cyclic Redundancy Check.

Would any of you experts please recommend a solution or a path that I should follow in recovering my files. Your comments are highly appreciated.

A CRC is a bad write. Burn the files again at low speed and use good quality media such as Taiyo Yuden(Sony% FujiFilm)<must say made in Japan or Verbatim. You can use Nero CD/DVD Speed and scan your burns to see what quality write your getting.

Asus K8N nVidia nForce3 Pro 250 GB, Athlon 64 3200+, Hitachi 80 gig SATA 150, Corsair XMS 1 gig PC4000, ATI Radeon Saphire 9600 Pro (256 DDR), Windows XP Pro (64 Bit),Lite-ON SOHD 167T,, Plextor PX-712SA,BenQ 1640.

CRC is a check that every frame of data sent from your drive (or any other data transfer) is correct. (simply) This is done by doing a calculation with the number of bits/bytes per frame and this is tagged to the end of frame data. So if the data has been duplicated say with a bit set to 1 instead of 0 the end of frame sum will not match when the calculation is run again on the same bits/bytes in the frame. Hence a CRC error.
