Just to let you guys know, you'll need a DL disc to back up the entire American Idol DVD. There is too much stuff on the DVD that it just simply does not fit on a single layer DVD-5 disc. You can use re-author mode in Shrink to back up a select few parts from the DVD, but to get most or all of the DVD, you'll definately need to use DL media.
I went the DL 8.5GB route (since Shrink won't let you lower the compression enough), but the burned disc acts funny in my DVD players.
First, I used DVD43 to copy the _TS directory to my hard drive straight from the disc. Then, burned w/Nero 7.
One player (GoVideo) does not show the background graphic for the menus (although the highlight/selection is there, and can be moved between options, even though they're invivible). If I guess at the menu, it will play the video segments fine.
My Toshiba player won't even go to a menu - I can't select anything.
I can play the files on my computer just fine (Nero Showtime).
