I use the following programs: DVD Decrypter to decrypt and copy full content of DVD into HD, DVD Shrink to recompress DVD9 to DVD5, all with AnyDVD in the background.

I tried to backup full DVD of The Terminal, but while decrypting VTS_08_4.VOB, it freezes on DVD Decrypter with the following message in the log:

W 01:12:25 Failed to read Sector 1933552 - Unknown (CRC or ECC Error) (0x10, 0x90)

I have tried to backup directly with DVD Shrink but while Analysing (not Encoding) it stops at 67% and says:

dvd shrink encoutered a error and cannot continue failed to read file d:/ data error (cycle redundancy check).

Also tried DVDFab Decrypter and also freezes while decrypting VTS_08_4.VOB, with no error message nor warning.

I tried all these 3 programs with AnyDVD in the background (DVD Decrypter is configured to work correctly with AnyDVD) also the disc is in pristine condition, no scratches, no grease nor dust.

All indicates that file VTS_08_4.VOB has some protection in its middle that prevents the backup, i have searched for a topic in the matter, but haven't found one... anyone has a suggestion, advice or help with my problem?

odd?

not sure if this film is a bad one to copy or not?

i am just wandering if you may have a conflict of software going on aswell as bad ripping?

have you tried AnyDVD with CloneDVD 2 ?

Nothing here to see, move along folks.

The Terminal is a simple movie to backup with DVD Shrink in re-author mode - main movie only (no extra protections).

Have not or would not copy entire disk (perhaps faulty original).

You probably got a bad press. See if you can exchange it and give it another go.

Cheers.

Is there someway to know if i got a bad press? i mean if there's a program that could analyse the disc and show if there's a defective sector... also which is the best program to read scratched discs or a bad press?

I'm asking this because The Terminal plays fine on my standalone and pc player, and there's no scratches on the surface, therefore there's no way to notice if its a bad press or not; also i have encounter a few titles that do show problems while playing.

First example is The Chronicles of Riddick's Pitch Black, while playing on my standalone player, it jumped almost a full chapter while on the pc played fine; a year after i bought it again, assuming that it came from a new press, and the new one played fine on both pc and standalone.

But another example is Band of Brothers, i bought them years ago and had problems while playing on standalone (freezing on specific points on 3 discs) but no problem while playing on pc; same case with Amadeus Director's cut... i recently repurchased them, asuming that they came from a different press, and the problems were still present, but in different points.

I understand the importance of getting good press dvd, but you can't tell if you're getting a bad press or not, until months or years later when you're trying to back them up; and even more, buying them again even from a new press, is no garanty that you'll get them with the problem fixed.

@ematrix

I have had luck with DVDFab decrypter (available at this site) reading tough to read discs.

You and try DVDidentifier or DVDinfopro to read your discs. If you look in the DVD -/+ forum you will find more information about reading discs for quality.

Cheers.

@9mmruger1

I tried DVDFab Decrypter, and also freezes while decrypting VTS_08_4.VOB, with no error message nor warning, just keeps reading the disc with no progress... i allowed this to continue for a minute or two, after that i aborted the operation; i don't know if what happened with DVDFab Decrypter is a normal operation with tough discs (specially scratched discs or bad press) and i should allowed it to continue until fixes the problem, or if indeed was unable to read that VOB file and froze.

I tried DVDInfoPro and indeed shows that the DVD has some bad sectors, any program that can read bad sectors and fix them?

Make sure that you have the latest DVDFab 2.9.6.2

Good luck.

I do have the lastest DVDFabDecrypter, but as i mentioned before, DVDInfoPro has detected bad sectors on my DVD.

The question is... is there a program that could fix these problems? i have no problem reading it on my standalone nor pc, but with all of the programs that i have mentioned before, simply haven't worked for me, and i wish to avoid spending another $20 to buy it again, (since i bought this months ago i can't ask for a refund or replacement) just to see if it's a good print from which i can make a backup successfully, or if it will have bad sectors also.

Bad News!

I just spend another $20 and bought a new DVD of The Terminal... and guess what? the same problem all over again... DVD Shrink will not complete the Analysis, DVD Decrypter and DVDFab Decrypter will freeze upon reaching VTS_08_4.VOB

I can't say that i got again a bad press, since there's a year of difference from the first DVD and the recent one, also purchased in different stores, therefore they came from different lots and supliers.

Could this be due a software conflict? if so what should i do? disable AnyDVD? use only DVD Shrink? should i use a different program all together? please help!

hi

yes disable anydvd and try dvd decrypter...

have you tried file mode and iso mode ripping with dvd decrypter? did you set the region code in DD ? try different cracking methods found in options,

what is the error in DD, does it stop or carry on with errors?

could try a firmware upgrade for your drive? or try ripping from another drive?

Nothing here to see, move along folks.

@ Rotary

yes, i tried it with AnyDVD on the background, and DVD Decrypter in file mode, the regional code is set identical to the disc, but the problem in DVD Decrypter is that upon reaching VTS_08_4.VOB it will stop while trying to read the "errors", after the 20th default try, will cancel the process and abort the decryption....

I was just about to give up completely with this movie (which now i have bought twice) i tried it again exactly the same way, but now managed to read the "errors" after the 5th try and continued the process in file mode to the end... really odd situation, i have no explanation of why did it work now and not before, and i checked the backup which played perfectly...

And this is not the only case, recently i read here in the forum that somebody has the same problem with "American Pie"

I often get the same error. However my solution is to use my 2nd burner and it works. Some disks work in one drive others work in the other dont try to find a reason why. I highly recommend you get a 2nd drive. Next time the major electronics stores give drives away with rebates like they did last weekend just pick up another. I also suggest getting 2 different manufacturers so you can spread out the problems over two different drives. I have 5 burners now including 2 DL's in 3 different computers and have paid a grand total of $29.99 for all 5. The two DL's cost the most damm electronics companies trying to make a buck on us users. Everything in life should be free! Ok it is most of the time but hey I want everything for free too hear that STARBUCKS!

the same problem here, I cannot backup the film 'The Terminal' it's proving very difficult. I too have tried all the usual programs, shrink, decrypt, AnyDVD, DVD43, clone...etc..etc... And I can never get beyond analysing 29% of the main movie file or 42% of the full dvd backup before the dredded 'data error (cyclic redundancy check)' crap pops up.

Dvd is in mint condition. I have run out of ideas....anyone got any?!
cheers

First of all, if you're using AnyDVD in the background, try it again but with this program off, since some titles may present problems while it's active, and sometimes it's the complete opposite...

Per example Stigmata or Silence of the Lambs you need AnyDVD activated in conjunction with DVD Shrink or DVDDecrypter to backup them up perfectly (if you use only DVD Shrink or DVDDecrypter, there will not be indication of error and the resulting backup will not play) but other titles like The Sleeping Beauty or Snow White will back up with DVDDecrypter or DVD Shrink only if you disable AnyDVD.

Secondly, i had the same problem as you do, and the best solution i came with, was trial and error... i have no explanation as to why apparent "easy to back up" titles give problems sometimes, specially when they were released years ago, prior to RipGuard and ARccOS, all i can advice you is to keep trying, start from the simplest to the hardest solution... i reccomend you to start with DVDDecrypter only (no AnyDVD in the background)

If this doesn't work, then try DVDDecrypter with AnyDVD in the background, but remember you need to configure DVDDecrypter ir order to work with AnyDVD as follows:

Proceed to the DVDDecrypter Opening Page - Tools - Settings
I/O Tab - Click on "Elby CDIO-Elaborate Bytes"
General Tab - un-check "Check For Structure Protection"
