I can't find where I read it, but is it true that it doesn't matter how long your movie clips are as long as they fit in the 4G capacity of the DVD-R? I mean, even if it exceeds 120 minutes which is what the disk is marked as?

Or is it like one or the other...if it reaches 4G or 120 minutes - whichever happens first

Thanks for any help

It's as the disc states, however most members do not exceed the 4.3 mark as in excess of this burns too close to the outer edge of the disc and here you can encounter problems. If you wish to exceed the disc CAPACITY then you can use a program called DVD Shrink which is a free program and heres a link on how to use it. http://www.dvdplusvideo.com

I'm not burning past the 4G mark, but my videos are longer than 120 minutes...is that ok?

That should not be a problem, have you got any RW discs, if so try them first and if it works out just use +R or -R after that

You can fit a movie longer than 2 hours onto a single layer disc, but some quality is lost. I managed to fit the entire Pearl Harbor movie onto a single layer disc using deep analysis and maximum smoothness in DVD Shrink. The quality was OK, but not great.

I'm just using the usual DVD-R single layer

Thanks for the info - I don't want to sacrifice quality to save a disk or two - I have about 170 mins to burn.

@daron44, 170 minutes is a long way past 120 minutes, if you don't want to sacrifice quality then I suggest you go to a D/L disc which will handle the 170 minutes quite comfortably. I have used normal discs for 180 mins but as I said I have used DVD Shrink.
