ok, so starting with DVD Shrink meaning skip the Fab process?????? So exactly how does that work. I just started and I am using FAB, DECRYPTOR, and SHRINK and all seems to be working well. I would love to do away with my desktop and use my laptop...I will get myself a 40 gig hard drive for the laptop soon , but in the meantime, if you could direct me to one of those cool HOW to guides on just using Shrink, that would be cool. Keep in mind that I only have one DVD burner..an external one

Thanks

BMFlash, I wouldn't necessarily say you would need to uninstall the drivers. However, it only takes a few seconds and windows will reinstall them for you.

Also, if your processor/memory is pretty low, you may not be able to do much other than upgrade. However, in my case, it was a brand new PC with an Athlon 3200+ and 2GB of ram. I figured it was waaaaay too slow at 1700 kb/sec.

OK....I read the guide about shrinking and not using FAB, but it stopps at Happy shrinking. I usually use DVD Shrink to finish off the DVD totally...I use FAB and then remove the disk and place a blank one in and Shrink does everything else...Did I miss something in the full disk instructions about putting in the blank DVD and durning the ISO that Shrink Created????????
Question is...when do I place the blank DVD in and Can Shrink burn it for me?

Thanks

OK...I admit it, I am the newbie here and have been using the nice little search function....I am not in front of my PC so I am shooting from the hip...it is not Fab that is taking a while, it is DVD Decrypter...the first step of the process.

Sorry to sound ignorant...it takes 2 and a half hours or so to perform the first step which is Decrypter????? Any advice on speeding this up

Sorry guys...I promise I will catch on...give me a week or so

I would definitely delete those deviced and let Windows recognize them on startup. It has worked for me on 3 different computer when I had the same problem. I don't know why it happens, but this has always fixed it 4 me.

Yea, sound like it reverted to PIO mode. Uninstall and reboot. Follow bbmayo's guide. It's simple http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/checking%20DMA.pdf

It sounds as if you all are using USB DVD BURNERS, I was told that if you are not ripping from a dvd rom it will slow down after so many uses the only thing you can do is RESTART not REBOOT but RESTART. for some reason this gets me back to normal.

DVD Shrink doesn't have a burn engine, so you will have to use either DVD Decrypter in ISO write mode or Imgburn.

Thamks for all that responded on trying to help me out with this issue. All controllers are set to DMA.....I am using an external DVDRW and I am ripping it to the hard drive from the DVDRW....I only have the one. If anyone has any other ideas, I would appreciate it. If this is as fast as it will rip then I guess I will deal with it...it is getting the job done. I have a 466 and after having a second look I am only holding 188 megs of ram...maybe that is my issue....PC works great, it is just slow at the ripping process with FAB

Any other suggestions would be appriciated.

Thanks

As LOCOENG suggested you can do it with shrink alone, but some movies will require a lending hand from AnyDVD or DVD43 (one or the other, not both)to assist in the encryption breaking process.

I personally recommend AnyDVD as this program driver is excellent. I use DVDShrink and AnyDVD all the time without having to rip the files to the HD first.

Can I do what you are talking about with the one Burner and one of the 3 programs I already have?

I have DVD FAB, DVD Decrypter, and DVD Shrink

Any help would be appreciated....ripping these to the Hard drive it a real time killer

@bmflash

What 9mmruger was trying to say, instead of ripping to HDD first with DVD Decrypter or DVDFab decrypter (which will place the entire uncompressed movie, usually weighing in around 7gigs, on you HDD), is rip the movie to your HDD using DVD Shrink which will compress the movie as it is being ripped to your HDD, yielding only a 4.3 gig file. If it is a newer prog that requires an updated decryption process, and you don't want to spend the money on AnyDVD, you can use DVD43 (free).

Me personally...am going to stop using DVD Shrink it takes a long time for some movies i do up to 4 & 1/2 hrs sometimes...so from now i will use clone dvd2 & AnyDVD..it blows DVD Shrink & Nero recode out of the water.

They are excellent choices and you won't be disappointed. I still like to use Shrink as I have a fairly fast system and like the ability to have the hands on control that I think shrink gives me. My average time to rip and encode and burn is less than an hour and I am usually doing something else when doing a backup.
