Every movie that I've backed up onto Memorex DVD+R 16X (using Benq DW1625 burner)seems to be having playback issues. They constantly pause throught playback, sometimes pausing and never restarting. When I attempt to re-open one of these with DVDShrink or DVDFabDecrypter to attempt to re-copy it I get a CRC error.

Everything else I've backed up prior to using the 16X media seems to work fine.

Is this my burner causing this, bad media or my DVD player?

now this could be an issue with ALL 3 of the things you mentioned, but my GUESS is that it's with the quality of media~ :)

Memorex or as referred to as "Memosux" here on AD, are known to use CMC MAG as their manufacturer on many of their media...they are very poor in quality, so, my bet is it's the media that is causing the playback issues...

also, Benq drives are made very well, i have the benq 1640 and it's great...what speed are you burning those 16x Memorex at? if you say 16x, then that is your problem right there...due to the fact the quality of the media isn't very good to begin with, i would suggest burning at a lower speed to compensate for the quality of media (or lack thereof in your case) :)

also, is it DVD-R or DVD+R? you will normally find DVD-R to be more compatible with your stand alone dvd player UNLESS you booktype (change the DVD+R format to dvd-rom), which i KNOW ur benq can do using the Q-suite~ :)

could be 1 thing or all 3 things, but, i would suggest getting some better quality media FIRST before going out and spending $$ on a new dvd player/drive~ :)

anytime buddy, i would suggest getting some "better" media and then see if the problems still occur~ :) but, if you still have MANY of those 16x memorex to go, i suggest simply slowing down the burn speed to compensate for the lack of quality in those discs~ MIGHT give you LESS headaches than you are having now~ not guranteed, but, MIGHT prove worthwhile~ :)

Excellent advise kivory666

I just ordered Taiyo Yuden 4X media, hopefully these will do the trick. I see they are rated the best by everyone on AfterDawn. I will also use the remaining Memorex at the lowest speed.

Thank you
