Okay gang. Which one would be better, or does it not matter? I know this has been stated OVER and OVER again, but the more I read, the more confused I get..Incidentally, my BenQ 1640 DL Burner will be at my door today, that being Wednesday 12/07/05. Whcih media to use....

1. Tai-Yudens DVD-R's

or

2. Tai-Yudens DVD+R's

Lot of controversey here about which type to use....

Also, If I use the +'s, I need to set the Booktyping or something I think its called, and booktyping isnt needed if using the -'S. Odd, the more you read here, the more confusing it gets. using DVDFAB, then Shrink, then Burn with Nero 6.6 Ultra...is this proecess correct for most burning issues? Also, I still have a few DVD +'s laying around, can someone tell me the easiest procedure for do the booktyping thing? Please put it in lamens tersm, some of you experienced Copiers here speak in Advanced PC Lingo-1000, and I'm only a Beginner in PC Lingo-101 ! LOL

If I have understood everything here correctly, the +R's are better to use as the lead in isn't already pre recorded on the disk. Your new burner should/may set the booktype to -R for you. My Hp DVD Burner 740b sets the booktype to -R on my recordings. Some software will do this I believe and sometimes a burner firmware upgrade will accomplish this. Please guru's, if this isn't right then let me/us know as this is what I have gathered from all the info here at AD.

I personally do not believe there is any difference in the +R and-R format for as yet I haven't noticed any quality difference. The main thing is that some players prefer +R format, some -R format and some will play both. If your player will accept the +R format then there is no need to booktype. Your choice of media is excellent, a big tick for that. Burn at a slow speed, around 4x to 6x and keep your burning progs up to date. I always use NeroVisionExpress3 to do all my burning, most files I just drag into NVE3 and burn, letting NVE3 do any conversions for me. To back up a DVD I use DVD Shrink or Nero Recode2 with AnyDVD running in the background.

My preference would be the +R's so that you can booktype them to DVD-ROM which will give you more consistant playback ability on the various stand alone players.

I don't know about a quality difference between the -R's and the +R's though as I have only used +R's myself.

no i can't tell any quality difference either
to clarify the -r/+r thing
DVD-R is not DVD-ROM. They are prewritten as DVD-R in the booktype area on the disc and are booktyped DVD-R and that is why they cannot be changed.
On DVD+Rs this booktype area is left blank and that is why they can be booktyped DVD-ROM. which makes them pretty much 100% compatible with most players
