Can anyone help me please find a simple modem to connect directly to the network adaptor on the back of my ps2. I have a desktop downstairs connected to 1mb Pipex via a speedtouch 330 usb. I don`t want to use my computer at the same time as my ps2 so I dont need a router just a simple ethernet modem direct from the adsl phone line, is this possible for playing my ps2 online?. Thanks.

no it`s a usb alcatel speed touch 330, I have to log on with a username and password to pipex to go online. I`ve been trying to find out about a simple ethernet adsl modem to just connect directly to my ps2 network adaptor with no need for my pc. I think I can use my username via the network access disk supplied with the sony ps2 adaptor to go online.

yes the username/password should not be a problem... the problem would be that your modem is usb only. Did you buy this modem or are you renting it? If it's a rental then i'd suggest you send it back to your ISP and tell them you need a modem that has an ethernet connection on it. If you bought it then there's 2 things I can think of which you can do.
1) buy a new modem which has ethernet.
2)get a second NIC in your pc and use ICS (internet connection sharing) to get your ps2 to go online through the pc (so the pc sorta acts like a very low scale router) you'd need a crossover cable to connect the ps2 to the 2nd network card and the pc would need to be on for this to work.

Thanks for the reply, I definately dont want to go down the road of internet sharing, I need to get an ethernet modem. Can u reccomend a simple modem or site for one that has no firewall and will connect straight forward. I bought a us robotics 9003 modem/router and it`s a nightmare to configure. I can`t even access the internet through it!.

I'm not too sure about dsl modems but, I did try a d-link cable modem and it worked like a charm (after my ISP added my MAC address to their servers of course) also tried a motorola surfboard (cable modem as well) and it too works well. Whatever you're gonna get just make sure you talk to your ISP befor you buy it to make sure it's compatible with their server/system.

Please Help Me...
This is doing my head in..
I have a ps2, along with the SCPH-10350EE ethernet only adaptor." No modem socket, just ethernet" I have connected it up to my p.c via the lan socket using a crossover cable as instructed.
I am using Wanadoo with a speedtouch 330 modem, which has no network socket, just the usb plug to my p.c
I should be able to use the pc as a router for the playstation which is connected to the pc via the crossover cable.
I have spent hours and hours trying to get it to work, late night head aches, all that stuff.
I have tried the auto settings. The custom Wanadoo settings. Manual settings. Just about everything I can think off.
I have enabled internet sharing, auto config. Manual ip settings. etc etc.
This is the problem.. When I try the ps2 network diagnostics it sometimes gets as far as the network test then fails dns test.
I could go on and on explaining the things I have tried. I am becoming obssesed with the thing. I can't spend any more time. Must get some work done. I don't want to be beaten by this. My son will be dissapointed.
Please Please. Can anyone tell me exactly what I must do to get the thing working.
In a nut shell...
Has any one sucesfully managed to connect a ps2 with ethernet adaptor directly to the Lan socket on the p.c using a crossover cable, and getting it to work online using wanadoo via a speed touch 330 usb modem.
Any help would be fantastic.
Richard

Is your game an original or a back-up? If it`s a back up you need to patch the game with the correct dnas code for the game. You can find the dnas codes on this forum using the search button, and a link to windip to patch your image file of the game. Hope this helps.

612 error is nothing to do with an unpatched backup...
-612 NET_DNS_TRY_AGAIN
The DNS resolver cannot be found. "DNAS Error (-612) A network error has occurred." Please double-check your network connection and/or network configuration.
Make sure you unplug the modem from the electric supply before you hook up to the PS2, then once hooked up, plug the electric back in to let the modem reboot & synch with the PS2.
Always 1st with 100% working PS2 Online Game DNA$ IDs!!
