There might be a program out there that could stablize it from jumping around but there is no way you will be able to get DVD quility off a VHS to DVD conversion.

I also have the WinFast 2000XP video capture card as well as stated in the link that gwendolin has posted.
But capturing VHS tapes and converting them to DVD dosent mean you will get DVD quility picture. The quility will only be as good as what your capturing off the VHS player.

@larrylje, I fully agree with your comments, poor quality video equals poor quality DVD.

I just added the quilty of the DVD comment cause bobinshot said that his copy doesn't have the clarity of a dvd. It wont have clarity of a dvd if the source is VHS.
@gwendolin
Do you record TV shows with your capture card? If so what software do you use? I used the software that came with my WinFast 2000XP but hated setting it up to record. Had to do it like a VHS recorder.
So I got a program called Beyond TV from http://www.snapstream.com/ and I love it. It is like Tivo but on your computer. Search for the show you want. Click on it when you find it. And it sets up automaticly to recored the show. You can even season pass it if you want.
I used to use it alot but I have a Tivo and a DVR system also so i can recored 3 shows at once on them. So I uasly let my kids set up what they want to recored on the Beyond TV and all they have to do is stream the shows from the computer to the Xbox with Xbox Media center to watch on the TV. Works out great.

@larrylje, although my capture card has that feature I have too many video outlets and refuse to put one in the office where my comp is, I can get a picture via a indoor antena but not a good one. I have captured tv progs just using software that came with PVR.

what movie is it?
I ask this because I had transfred alot of my VHS to DVD and really didnt like the quility and serched for the movies and come to find out most of all have been dubbed to DVD and was offred on netflix.
and as I said before the DVD will only be as good as the source your copying from.
Maybe the VHS movie your friend made the DVD with is degrading enough to where it dosent play that good on the VHS machine. Soultion try renting the VHS tape at your local video store and see if the play quility is better and then make the DVD from that source.

I recently recorded the movie, In Dreams with Annette Benning and Aidan Quinn, robert Downey jnr. It was on video and I wanted to try my Winfast prior to doing my home movies. The quality was really good, it ran for 100mins and all I did was burn with NVE3. With the winfast you can record directly to Nero as well saves a little mucking around. I have my VCR hooked up to Winfast capture card go to NVE3 and hit capture video and then record as such
