I will be getting into DVD burning by the end of this month and will be transferring shows from my TV, Digicam and VHS to my pc then burning them to DVD, will also be copying from DVD. I have a read a CNET course on it but still have some questions and would appreciate if you guys can help me out please. My first question concerns this particular Analog-to-digital Converter, if anyone can take look here please
http://www.dvdo.com/companion/adv-2000.php

and tell me if I can use this unit for burning my stuff to DVD? I will be purchasing this unit for another purpose [music] so instead of having to buy a separate unit for DVD burning purposes, it would be great if I could use this one unit for both. Anyone? Thanks.

For the tasks you want to perform I use a WinFast 2000XP video capture card manufactured by Leadtek, this will record your video to hard drive in MPEG2 format and then you can burn to a DVD using a prog such as Nero or TMPEG. It's an internal device, easily fitted and mine only cost AU$55.00. You can also record television programs to HD with this device as well as watching TV progs on your PC. The TV2000XP deluxe model also comes with Video Editing Software. I have used mine to convert all my VCR tapes (9x3hrs) over to DVD without quality loss. For the extra few dollars I would check out the DELUXE model. Cheers

Unfortunately I don't have any more PCI slots available otherwise I would have bought a good video card so I will need something "external" and my priority right now is to find out if I can use that 1 unit mentioned in my first post for this purpose, thanks for the referral though!

Just wanted to inform you that I have taken your advice and will get the Deluxe edition [Thank you very much], seeing that I already have Nero then this just makes sense and I have seen good reviews about the Leadtek on other sites. Just one question concerning this unit please and this is not important or necessary, can you watch your pc screen on your TV? Thanks.

I think if you stick to Verbatim (my choice) or Taiyo Yuden, I use Verbatim because I cant find Taiyo here in AUS. Stay away from Memorex, they dont have a good name with fellow members. Good luck, please post back some time and let us know your results.

Thanks for the referral, will look into it. I'll keep you guys posted as I go along, I'm still not clear on the question I had asked in one of posts above which was
"can you watch your pc screen on your TV" using the Leadtek?

ok, when I get the unit I'll see if it does the above, a couple of questions please?

1] Can you do "multi-sessions" on DVD in any way?

2] If "Yes" to the above, I don't wish to keep the DVD cases, they take up too much space so I am thinking of using a CD holder for the DVD's but what can I do about writing the names of the content on the DVD itself?

For a small outlay you can purchase a Epson or Canon printer that allows you to print directly onto Ink Jet printable discs and you get something like this.

it can also be used as a normal printer, the printing is cheap, some members have over 100 lables without ink re fils

Next issue, can I use anything I already have to "grab" images or take snapshots from the films or do I need any special software to do this? I have Nero 6.

The capture card that I mentioned alows you to "Capture" an image from you video by pressing the "space" bar. I have used it several times and then transferred that image onto my actual Ink jet printable DVD

GREAT, thanks, by the way, I still did not get an answer from you guys concerning the "multisession" DVD burning? I will be doing the burning mainly for highlights of my son's games so it will take a while before I can fill a single DVD this is why it is important for me to know how to do multisession, does Nero 6 have this capability? If not, which other software can I use to do this please?

Can I have all of the above features we have discussed here with just the regular version? The Deluxe is kind of higer priced and I mean even "used". This is my choice right now, get a brand new regular version or a used Deluxe version? Which would you choose?

Went to Leadtech's site last night and did a comparison check on all of the cards, the one you have listed that it will do all that I want and much more, I was very surprised that this card has all of the capabilities it advertises. I ordered the exact one you have last night. I saw mention of a certain feature concerning that card and was wondering what it means, it concerns "slow motion" playback. It mentioned that you can do "Instant replay", can you tell me if you've ever used either of the slomo or instant replay features and if so, does it work really well?

Hey I was reading your review of leadteks 2000xp video capture card, I was wondering if you had any problems with it such as locking up windows or crashing etc. I have heard of some people having problems with other cards freezing their windows. Have you had any trouble at all with the card and windows. Lastly did you have any trouble with copy protected VHS tapes (macrovision etc) normally if I copy a vhs tape equiped with macrovision I get flashing on the video playback copy. Does this card deal with such protection or is that a function of driver software filtering out the protection like AnyDVD type software?

I got the Leadtek RM last night and looks GREAT but Leadtek support is very slow so until they contact me to answer my questions, I would like to ask just 2 questions please for anyone who has a Leadtek card:
1] My TV has a built-in DVD and VHS so I would simply like to transfer whatever shows on my TV screen unto my pc, only thing I can figure out right now is to go straight from my Cable box to my pc, I can't see how to go straight from my TV to the pc, is there a way that I can connect my TV directly to my pc so whether I am watching live TV, playing a VHS or DVD, I will be able to see and record from all 3 sources on my pc?

2] Regarding the "Audio" setup, I can't figure out how to get audio when watching from any input sources?

Well, I just got a call from Leadtek support which was very fast compared to the first time I had called them, bottom line, this card will not allow me to to view my TV directly on the pc so if I am to keep this card, I will have to get a separate VHS and DVD so this will not work for me, my fault, I should have looked into this "before" purchasing, it's really a shame because the interface is neat and easy and the picture is beautiful, too bad.

The good thing is, I had previously purchase a WinTVGO card which allows me to view whatever is on my pc screen on my pc but I could not grab images or snapshots with it BUT I just found out that I can use software to do this so I may have a cheaper alternative using my existing card after all! Will have to do some more checking.

Ok so I will have to send it back and get some other card, any referrals? Also, if anyone wishes to purchase it, I can sell it to them for a discounted price, let me know.

Aaay, back to the old headaches with Leadtek support, have been waiting for 3 days but still no call from them so let me ask my question here please. I am using the Leadtek Winfast TV 2000 XP RM-version and I have my tv connected to the card, problem is, how do I get the "Audio" to be recorded along with the captured video? Since the card itself does not have any Audio ins or outs, how is this acheived? Do you connect the TV Audio Out to the Line-in on your soundcard?

I struck the same problem with mine but all I did was connect my Audio out cable from my VCR to my sound card, works well.
I am actually doing a recording as I type.

Yeah, the card is great and I love the interface but just wish their tech support would be better, the last time I contatced the Tech, he told me that the weird looking audio cable that comes with the unit is meant to be connected on the card's board and then also on the Audio Input connector on my Motherboard, called Dell and they said my pc has no such thing on it's Motherboard, haven't heard from the Tech yet after a few days now.

By the way, the Tech had also told me that I CANNOT connect my TV to pc, it has to be done via my Dish Network Receiver, I did not give up, I connected the Video Out from TV directly to the card and selected the CVBS input on the card's interface, lo and behold, there is it! Makes you think about asking that Tech for any future help, doesn't it?

Anyways, ok, just be sure we are on the same page, I tried connecting the Audio out from my TV to my pc's line-in but did not get any sound, are you saying that when you capture video from your vcr connecting the Audio out from your VCR [to the Line-in on your pc I am guessing?], that the video is recorded with audio? Thanks.

ok, I'm getting the Audio now, don't know why it didn't work before, maybe it was the Y-Cable.
