Found the problem, the Y-Cable going into the pc's soundcard had a mono 1/8 plug, conjured up one with a stereo 1/8 and this is it! Now on to FINALLY [I hope] burning a DVD.

Using Nerovision Express, I burnt my first DVD using a short video file I captured from TV, when I play back the DVD on my DVD player on the TV, I notice that the colors on some of the scenes sort of flickers a little, I then went back and played the original captured file on my pc and the flickering is not there, it is fine, any ideas why this may be happening or any fixes for future burning?

This could be a media problem, what type are you using. Burn at a slow speed of around 4X. Glad to hear you've got things sorted and have reached burn stage.

I am using the Taiyo Yuden which you [and others] had recommended as being among the best. You may be correct, I remember now that Nero had as default a "maximum" burn setting, I will adjust down to 4 as you've suggested and get back to you.

p.s. The only reason I had created that other thread was becuase when I had made this post it did not show up for some reason, I am very much aware about double-posting issues and never do so intentionally, just wanted to explain to you guys, thanks.

Some strange stuff is going on here, first of all, Nero does not have a 4x option, all I see are Max, 2x and 1x so I used 2x and still see the flicker BUT only on the TV screen, I don't see the flicker on my pc screen. Another thing is, the DVD itself appears to have some hiccups when played back on DVD players, sometimes the player will take a very long time to read it, other times it I get other error messages aand sometimes it just doesn't read it, I tried this with 2 different DVD players on my TV screen but I have absolutely NO problem playing back the DVD in my pc burner.

The message I am getting from this is that the DVD may not be compatible with any other player except for the player it was burnt on? Any ideas anyone?

Here's the latest info I got from a friend of mine:

"There are several different types of physical formats for DVD disks. Unfortunately, not all DVD players recognize all the different types. Most newer DVD players recoginze the major formats but not all. My guess is your PC recognizes the formats but your DVD player does not. My DVD player downstairs does not play video on one format but you can hear the audio. I hear it but get a black screen. The formats are centered around + and -. You can buy DVD(RW) - or DVD(RW) + or DVD(RW) +/- You will see what I mean if you look at some DVD blanks for burning. That is the most likely cause of the issues. Try a different format."

Any opinions on the above anyone?

What your friend has said is true, most DVD players will accept DVD-ROM (which is the format of most commercial DVDs. What I would suggest is that you Booktype your +R or +RW media to DVD-ROM, to do this using Nero follow this guide.

Went all over the place last night trying to find a 1 or 2-pack [-R] but no luck, I will have have to buy at least a 15-pack just to test. Yeah, the booktyping seems to be what I need but I followed the link you gave me and then another and so on and still can't find the DVD Decrypter software for download unless I missed something but I don't think so, every link I visted tells me that the software is no longer available to to problems with the courts, do you or anyone else have a direct link to a page where I can get this download?

Also, not sure I understand what's really going on here, when I install that software, do I use that software from now on or can I still use Nero6? I had thought that the Decryptor would only be used to create the booktype setting and then I would go back to Nero as regular but from what I understand now, the decryptor software will be "replacing" Nero, is this correct?

You still use Nero6 as you did before. You can booktype in Nero, heres a guide to follow
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/277889#1577028#1577028

You can get a copy of DVDDecrypter from bbmayo site in my sig, you use this prog to remove any copyright.

Thanks, I'm almost there, I don't know exactly which Blank option to choose from the "select" drop-down list, mine reads
DVD+R but it is RW and my burner is a DL [Dual Layer]so then shouldn't my option should read
DVD+R/RW DL?

If so, I don't see this option, if not, then which option can you advise me to choose please? Thanks.

Tried all of the options, same problem so I guess I will have to try another type of blank, how do I undo the DVD Decrypter to set Nero back to the way it was before using the decrypter?

I looked and found the manual for my DVD player, it says that

"This unit can play the following discs-DVD Video discs, Video cd's, Audio cd's."

I am confused about the concept of DVD video discs. I am simply trying to burn captured video unto a DVD for use to play back on my TV, is this DVD video disc something different from what I am presently using or doing? Also, I am capturing to Mpeg2 format, would this have anything to do with my problem?

Looks like I have found the culprit, I needed to convert the captured MPEG-2 files to either AVI, VOB or DVD before burning, my standalone nows plays the disc perfectly, only slight problem is quality so I have to look into into which will give me better quality, AVI, VOB or DVD? By the way, Gwendolin, wouldn't it be better to to capture the files via Leadtek using the "DVD" capturing option instead of MPEG-2? I am thinking that instead of having to convert the MPEG-2 to VOB or AVI or dvd, why not capture to DVD then burn directly through Nero?

Just tried capturing via Leadtek straight to DVD file then burnt in Nero, result? No problems at all and quality is GREAT! So no more converting anything for me! Man, was this a very trying experience or what?

Appreciate your encouragement!! Just one more question on this topic please, can you capture from DVD directly from your pc's burner/rom using your leadtek card? Or, I am wondering now, if you can play a DVD in your burner/rom and capture it at the same time?
