Hi

When I try to open an avi source file, TMPG becomes unresponsive. Im trying to convert the avi to vcd or svcd. Here are the codec specs for the avi file:

Audio Codec: MPEG-1 Layer 3(MP3)
Video Codec: XVID MPEG-4

Both of these codecs are installed on my computer but TMPG still freezes before the source file opens. Any help is appreciated.

Sincerely,
Boba Phett

Maybe try going to "Options" to "Enviromental Settings" to "VFAPI Plugins" and Raise the Priority of the "Direct Show Multi-Media File reader" to "2" and that will Hopefully get the AVI Loaded into TMPGEnc....

Also if your AVI File uses the VBR MP3 audio format then TMPGEnc will not output any audio at all for you because it doersn"t support this audio format and either do most other encoders, So if it turns out that your AVI uses this type of Audio (which is the Most Common format used on Downloaded AVI Movies) then you can Fix it by running your AVI file through this Tool and then encode the new File and you will have audio....

Ok I tried setting the Direct Show priority up that didnt work so I used the decompressor. TMPG loaded the decompressed stream and is encoding it to MPEG-1 as I'm typing. Thanks alot for your help Minion!

Well that Means that it was the Audio that was causeing TMPGEnc to not Load the AVI file....

It is actually a Good Idea to use the Decompres.exe tool on all your AVI files as Uncompressed audio is much easer to encode than compressed audio and it will help eliminate any sync problems or audio drop outs....

Well i"m glad you got it working....Cheers
