Hi, I just bought a new DVD player for my car and i have been making dvd discs full of music videos i can play. I use Nero Vision express as to make the DVD discs and they work fine, however i wish to play these music vids at random not in order but my JVC player can only do radom with vcd discs and cd,mp3s,wma's etc. I know i could just burn a vcd to a cd-r but that would only fit around 10 videos. So my question is, Is it possible to burn a vcd onto a dvd disc and if so how? I have Nero 6 ultra edition and couldnt figure it out so far so i hope you guys can help. Thanks for any help!

you could convert your video files to mpeg and burn them as a data dvd, i am not sure this will give you the ability to play random order but VCD files are in fact mpeg files...

ohpe this helps...

Ok, Thanks for your help. Most the files start off as .mpg or .mpeg ( Same thing?) and i convert them with nerovision express which takes around 9 hours. Some of the files are also .m2v So your saying if i burn the .mpg files as a data dvd it will recognise in my dvd player? Or even if i burn a cdr of mpg files it will recognise as a VCD? I was under the impression they had to be converted. Thanks for the help.

Yes, You can Put VCD"s on to DVD "WITHOUT RE-ENCODEING" so you don"t loose any Quality and you Can Fit 6 VCD"s on a Single DVD-R....

You can Not do it with "Nero Vision express" because it doesn"t support the CIF/SIF DVD Standard which is what VCD"s on DVD are...

The SIF/CIF DVD Standard and the VCD Standard are allmost exactly the same accept that the audio on a DVD has to be 48000hz were VCD audio is 44100hz so the audio Just Needs to be resampled to 48000hz before that will be DVD Compliant....

Here is a Guide on how to put SVCD Files on to DVD useing "MediaChance DVDLab" which uses the Same Process that Putting VCD Files on to DVD so you can use the same Guide for putting VCD and SVCD Files on to DVD "Without Re-Encodeing" and No Quality Loss...

You can also use "Tmpgenc DVD author" to Put VCD Files on to DVD...

Cheers

Thanks alot for that guide! I will try to burn it later tonight, I was just skimming through it quickly it mentions joining all the mpeg files with mpeg-vcr can i skip this step since i have around 40 videos i dont want joined? Or do i have to have all the videos joined together? (I'd rather them as separate files)

No, You Don"t have to join them all You will just have to add a Whole bunch of "Movie" windows to your Project and with 40 seperate Files it is Going to be Very Complicated to create a DVD with enough Menu"s to fit all of the Buttons and Links you are going to need....

You are Going to have to make a Menu(s) with Buttons that link to each seperate File so you can select which one you want to watch so if you have 40 seperate Files then you are Goiung to have to make 40 seperate Movie Windows and with 40 seperate Buttons on the Menu going to each seperate file...

Also after each File has Finnished Playing it will go back to the Main Menu again were you will have to select the next file you want to watch....
If this Sounds Like it is Going to be to Complex then I suggest that you DO Join all of them Together as it will make everything a Lot easier....
If you Join them all into one File then when each File Finnishes Playing the Next file will start Playing and you won"t have to have such a Jumbled and Complicated to create Menu and you won"t have to wait for DVD Lab to Demux 40 Files and then you will be working with 80 files....

So In the End "YES" You should Join the Files if you want your DVD to be a Lot easier to make and be easier to Navigate and will Just Plain Make the Whole Process SOOOOooo MUCH Easier and SOOOOooo Much FASter......

Cheers
