Hello all,
This is a great forum that I have been reading a little while now and have always found answers to my problems from just looking around, but I have one now i can not find a answer for. I bought the Fantastic 4 DVD and i have now tried to make over three back-up copy's for my son (whom would ruin the main disk within a day) And I am having trouble with all three disk saying that they are scratched or damaged and unreadable after the burn, but they are new disk with no damage that my eyes can see. PS2 just says disk read error, dvd player says please clean disk and computer says disk may be damaged or dirty.
I decided to ask here in hopes that I do not ruin any more DVD disk from trying to make him a back-up of this. I have a 3.2 gig dell, using Memorex 8x dvd+r disk on a lite-on burner, reading DVD from a hitachi dvd-drive, using anydvd in the back-ground with dvd shrink and nero. All my other back-up's work in my computer, dvd player and my son's PS2, but this dvd fantastic 4 keeps saying the same thing after every try. Could someone please help a newb with this I am greatful for any and all help. Thank you all very much.

I agree with Phantom69...get rid of the Memosux and use Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Maxells. Memosux is just crappily made media.
Burn at 4x. Booktype to DVD-ROM.
Cheers.

Hi. re Fantastic 4, see this thread - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/267038
..and as to the Memorex media, proceed to the relevant link in my signature, not pretty reading, Memorex should be downright ashamed of sone of the manufacturers they use..

Everyone has their issues with media, and it's true...there are problems with Memorex in some systems...just not all.
I use LiteOn drives with either Verbatim or Memorex...no coasters yet after any successful rips. When Memorex first went to DVD-R, they made really nasty media, went to Verbatim, still made coasters...bought the newest drive LiteOn had out...no more issues. So, it's not always the media.

@creaky
LOL - I've notice on occasion that you tend to post negativly regarding media of this nature.
Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas.

@creaky.....
Unfortunately, that's the cost of high production, fast yielding products. Not all can be tested, so yeah, no matter what you buy, eventually someone out there gets the rotten egg. I keep my fingers crossed no matter what the purchase is, as new doesn't always mean it'll work.

With regards to the quote "no matter what you buy, someone all gets the rotten egg"
I just don't think that?s true with TY disks.
The only people who get a bum deal on them, is those that end up with forgeries from dodgy outlets.
If you get the real deal TY disks, you get a quality disk 100% of the time.

I don't think media has anything to do with writing errors. Cheap media can still burn well but they may not last as long as you want it. I had backup more than 100 titles for a year now using dirt cheap media (A1 Pro) This media is condemned by my peers back in my hometown but so far there's no complaints from my customers because I used it for my video editing business as well. I burned a hundred disks weekly. I have used Mitsubishi, Kodak, Fuji, Ricoh, Verbatim, Maxell, LG, Imation. Their failure rate during burning around 1 - 2%
I replace my DVDRW after writing 350 - 500 disks.
F 4 is not a problem. In fact no movie is a problem. Madagascar is difficult but still can be done.

you make some valid arguments...
but it is impacted heavily by what you said about the time span the disks last, that is why better brands bring in better money...

media is one of the most important aspects of burning, when it comes to DVD burning anyway. with CD burning you can pretty much burn on a paper picture of a CD and get decent results :)

Just wanted to thank everyone for the help and give you all a update on what happened. I think the bad dvd's might be true because after reading the replys I picked up a small stack of maxell just to try and it worked on the first burn. Thanks again for the help and I hope you all had a great Christmas.
