How can you tell the real Taiyo Yuden from fakes?

I bought some Taiyo Yuden 4X from blankmedia.ca (I feel they are reputable company) and the disks are all silver with GH000126 stamped on the inner most edge.

Can anyone assist with this question?

Hub ID. Here is a quote from kivory666 (DocTY) from this thread:

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/255303

Quote:
also, another SURE-FIRE way to distinguish AUTHENTIC TY media is by a laser inscribed coding near the inner hub of the actual disc...

for 4x dvd-r, the coding follows THIS format: GD000xxx (where xxx is the batch number of when it was made @ TY factory)

for 8x dvd-r, the coding follows THIS format: GG000xxx (where xxx is the batch number once again)

for 8x dvd+r, the coding follows THIS format: TG000xxx (same thing applies for the xxx portion)
I think yours may be authentic 16X TY... DocTY will see you shortly...

@realrocky

PERSONALLY, i prefer the 8x DVD-R TYG02s over the 16x DVD-R TYG03s, this is a PERSONAL opinion only...i've used TYG02s extensively and have always had great results, BUT, with my limited use of the 16x TYG03s, i had an unpleasant burning experience at the time when they first came out into the market, so i sent them back :( i might have just gotten a "bad batch", but, i was disappointed with the results on the 100-pack i had tried.

so, if you want MY opinion on which you should go with (assuming you have a choice and direct SAY in it), i would go with the 8x DVD-R TYG02s...i've had better luck with them than the 16x rated ones...and yes, the firmware on ALL my drives were current at the time...this is VERY important if you want to maximize your TYG03s to the full potential and get a good burn :) i would also suggest burning them @8x, which is what i did, but, if you want to burn them @16x, i'm not gonna say anything to stop ya~ but u will have to deal w/ the outcome on your own, may have errors on it post burning...

Alkohol is in the house. Yep, that's the real deal, but I wouldn't burn anything beyond 8X period. My suggestion is to burn at 4X only -- that's the best, safest and most recommended.

Taiyo Yuden ROCK!!!

I'd stick with the X8 TYG02.

Used a lot of both X8 and X16, with the X8 retaining their quality to date (pif).

while the X16 (TYG03) have dropped quite alarmingly.

which has been echoed with the X16+R (YUDEN000 T 03) a lot of them dropping -8 PIF in 6 weeks or so.

Question for docTY:

Here's the order from Supermediastore around 11/4/05
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Taiyo Yuden White Inkjet DVD02X0100-100
Printable 8X DVD+R Media- 100pk

Paper label and all that appers to be genuine T-Y.

DVDInfoPro says:
Media Information
Region information N/A not a DVD-VIDEO
Media code/Manufacturer ID YUDEN000T02

But the number I see around the inner hub is
6F520A501354PG and not TG000xxx.

Am I looking in the wrong place for this code?
How large are the code numbers? I can see these with my own unenhanced eyeballs; is that right? Or should I be getting out a microscope?

@lab309

your answer is found here, in my TY thread...check about 1/2 way down the page and read my response to hwrench, YOUR inner hub coding will be VERY similar to that of HIS inkjet printables...beginning with the TG000xxx

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/4/296925

there ya go

If a TY is fake, wouldn't the media code also be fake? I don't know how these fake manufacturers can stay in business since they're obviously violating trademark and false advertisement laws.

yes, MOST of the time the MID coding is also "faked"...meaning, it's exactly how the media ID coding would be on a REAL Taiyo Yuden disc (ie. TYG02 for the 8x DVD-R format) :)

that's why there are ways to discern between REAL TYs and FAKE TYs...most notably is country of origin, if it's MADE IN TAIWAN but CLAIMS to be genuine TYs, they are most certainly NOT~! :)

as to the smaller manufacturers "getting away" with this practice, you have to understand that in China for instance, they obviously do NOT abide by the copyright laws that are in place here in the U.S., Canada, or other countries in Europe or Australia...if you got the $$$, factories in China (for example again) will make ANYTHING you want as long as they get paid, regardless of copyright/infringement/personal property laws/etc that are enforced in the country where YOU reside and purchase products :)
