Hello
I've problems with the DVD's i burn using DVD Decrypter is lagging when I run them in my DVD player (Also tried them in my friends DVD player). I use a Sony DVD+- 8x RW. I've tried with different types of DVD-R discs.
I think I have alot of programs running in the background, caused by bearshare and some porn surfing + I run Norton Antivirus/Internet Security. Can this cause problems with the burn process and make the DVDs lagg in my DVD player? Can it be something else that causes this?

Can you describe your lagging a little more? Specifically what happens with the picture and the sound....this sounds a little like what has plagued me on a couple titles. As far as your other question? Yes...it is certainly possible that spyware and/or your antivirus software is having an effect. For a while last year my DvdXCopy just stopped working entirely...I downloaded AdAware, ran it, and it started working again. I've also seen many recommendations to not have ANYTHING else running while burning to avoid complications. Some of the anti-virus stuff is nearly impossible to disable (it looks closed but it still in the background) but I would do the best you can.

Well.. At worst the picture/sound might stop for a few seconds then continue at normal for a few seconds and then stop again.. Sometimes when it stops it jumps to another chapter and continues there.
Sometimes I'm able to play the DVD without problems for about 15 minutes and then the lagging starts. Then I can take a break (turn off the dvd player) and continue in an hour and see maybe 15 more minutes without problems.

Is this happening on everything or just a particular title or two? My problem has been where the video pauses briefly...the audio stays consistent...then the video speeds up briefly to catch back up to the audtio. I burned Polar Express about 8 times on different media and at different speeds trying to get a "clean" copy, before finally getting a new DVD player and suddenly it played fine. I've seen some posts on here about a possibly dirty DVD laser...but I haven't looked into cleaners enough to be able to recommend something. What brand of media are you using?

this skipping and jumping can be the result of several different reason's the multi-tasking is a big no-no
try this, go offline, shut down norton (it's not needed when your offline) by right clicking on the tray icon infact shut all non necessity apps (especially bearshare)down in the tray! (maybe even adjust screen saver)
slow your burn down to the minimum media/drive compatable burn speed!
make sure your dvd (blank) is not dirty/scratched!
step away from the p.c. for as long as it takes to burn (turn off the monitorif it helps)
if this does not provide you with a satisfactory burn then it's time to get your media id'ed report back w/ results
ps do all of the above so you will be able to pin-point prob's one at a time if all goes well!

Do you have paper labels on them? These can drag.

In addition to these suggestions, set your target size to 4300. And it is generally accepted to burn at only half the rated speed of your blanks.

what programs are you using. Also it is vital that noi other progeams are running. I us DVD decypt and shrink. I ran into the same type of proplam. It ended up beibg a different maker on the DVD. Same DVD, but different stores. So it was a different manufactor.. The ideas I got were to lower the write speed. Now instead of 4X I run it at 1X Try these and let us know.

Thanks for replies.
I use verbatim DVD-R 16x and burn at 4x.
I just went to a friend and tested two of the dvd's I experience problems with on his dvd player, and it worked fine, so I'm guessing I can try and clean the laser on my player or buy a new one.

also you may try booktyping your dvd's to -rom for maximum compliancy,I know it's hard to read amongst the numerous very repeditive post that follwed, but did you try the steps in the previous post to make sure it didn't resolve the issue's enough to appease your player, at least til you can hit some one up for the new player for christmas.

@L8ter
You can't booktype DVD-R media, only the +R variety, which is what she is using.
