According to http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm the dataon dvd-r (made by AML) are landfill grade media with 0% to 50% success rate but I have had a 100% success rate!
Again the Infiniti DVDs made by Princo have had a 100% success rate.
And my blukpaq had 1 coaster!
Is it just that people over exaggerate about cheap media?
I wouldnt say to people dont buy cheap media, just dont use sticky dvd labels, then ruin your discs.
So out of 125 cheap dvd-r (rated as grade 4 and landfill grade) I have had 124 working well copied dvds.
Also I bought 5 maxell dvds when I first bought my dvdrw which are supposedly 1st class media but 2 of them dont even work anymore.
The whole media grade table has been turned on its head IMO.
How fast did you burn, though? If you burn at 4x, the chances of getting a coaster are slim, even with cheap media. Playbck issues will be a problem later on down the road, though. That's the problem with most newbies. They think burning fast is good. I'd rather wait an extra few minutes to get a very nice backup than burn a quick one and get crap quality. I always burn at 4x, even if I'm using 16x media.
i bought/used/burnt (almost with 100% success rate) literally about 500 Bulkpaq Orange discs before i wised up. I had a few skip on playback, and when i went back to check previously fine discs (had watched a shedload of them fine previously) they started skipping on me, CRC scans are worse than i don't know what, they are virtually all uncopyable, most are now unplayable even. The Bulpaq's have been proven to be FAKE disks hijacking the TYG02 media code.
