Just a FYI Shop4Tech has a sale on Taiyo Yuden. 100 for $31 and free shipping as always. Of course tax applied to those who have sales tax like me in CA (BUMMER). Still a deal. Also bundles with CD/DVD sleeves for only $7 more for those who like to store in sleeves. The feedback indicates disks read out as TYG03 and some users have stated burn at 8X to 16X without problem. Since I have been burning at 4X per suggestions of those Senior members at AD not an issue with me. Have ordered 100 and will let you know if lives up to reviews. Sorry doesn't look like any DVD+ at same price for those who like DVD+.

Beam me up creaky! Couldn't resist that, sorry. Just thought the "shrink" crowd more likely to be interested with all the reference to best media in some threads on Shrink Forum, but understand your reasoning. Appreciate your work here. I have gotten more good advice from AD than from anywhere else from "how to" info to programs, hard drives and DVD burners to buy. Just stumbled on the site and have been a regular visitor since. AD rocks!

seems like shop4tech is not the ONLY one sending TYG03s instead of the TYG01s (4x DVD-R which are becoming increasingly RARE as they-Taiyo Yuden- don't produce them anymore) :)

anyways, supermediastore is doing the same thing...you MIGHT get TYG01s (4x), TYG02s (8x) or TYG03s (16x) rated discs when you purchase the advertised special...substitutions are CLEARLY mentioned in the page...

while limited, my experience with TYG03s have NOT been a pleasant one...i've used THOUSANDS of TYG01/TYG02 coded media with flawless results, but, my 100 pack of TYG03s went back to meritline at the time as they were NOT THE SAME QUALITY on my particular batch, yes, i MIGHT have gotten a bad batch...who knows? but, i've had MUCH more success with 4x and 8x rated TYs in the DVD-R format than the 16x rated ones...that's just ME...and NO, i didn't burn them @16x either...did it @8x like i normally do with everything :)

Oh Hi folks,
I have a Question ...
Q: What is the BEST way to Store my DVD Back-Ups?
I currently use CD Wallet Cases for Storage. For example, 224 CD Logic case, or Case Logic 208, or Targus 208 CD Holder.
The reason that I am asking I just came across a thread that says the worst thing that I can do for Storing my DVDs and CDs especially is to put them in these cases ... becuase they will WARP (Bend) ... they are suggesting using CASE that the CD or DVDs are hung. If that is true (which make sense the weight of these things on top of each other ... and the Sheet never lay right anyway) then I have to sell my CD Wallet case which I have paid good penny for and buy me some of these case ... that is a LOT OF WORK & MONEY. I need storage for a lot of CDs & DVDs.
Anyway, I would appreciate if you folks would tell me WAHT is your Recommendation and the Logic behind it.
THANKS!

Hi, Gonwk

I just use slim jewel cases...the cheapest I can find them and they work fine. I'm sure people use other things but that's all I can afford :)

I also use slim jewel cases because they are fairly study and protect the disks. Each movie is named & numbered on the case since I also keep a running list of my movies in a Word document. I store my movie DVDs & music CDs in a storage unit I built (I build furniture as a hobby). Planned ahead and has capacity for 2,000 + slim cases. Some use the paper sleeves I mentioned at start of this thread but I think there is too much chance of damage using them. I saw recently at AD where someone used cases that video stores like Blockbuster and Hollywood video threw out. I?m not into dumpster diving and I think those cases are too big and they are expensive to buy. I agree that the Wallet Cases are not a good idea. Used them with some of my music CDs I backed up and after a time found taking them in and out sometimes scratched them and some were cracked. Remember there is a difference between DVDs & CDs burned and those that are pressed commercially. The dye media on burnable CDs & DVDs as I understand it is a bit more easily damaged than the pressed DVDs. Slim cases are cheap and recently got another 200 for $20 plus tax and shipping from Shop4Tech. I'm sure you can shop around at some of the other media sites and find similar cases as cheap.

Hi Mely4fun & M73 (or is it RN, sorry I couldn't make it with these Old eyes). Anyway, I saw on an Australian Forum that some folks use CD Storage Cases, which has individual Vertical CD/DVD storage holder. These are hanging sleeves, same quality as one used in CD Wallet stuff, EXCEPT the big deal on these is that there will no pressure exerted on them because they are vertically and individually stored.
Q1: HAS ANYONE used this type of Storage Device?
Q2: How does this compare to just having Jewel Cases?
THANKS FOLKS!

Still have to slide the DVDs in and out of sleeves. Someone older and wiser, well at least wiser, will have to comment on how this can effect the burnable DVDs. As I still understand it the dye surface is a little "soft" to use a term and may scratch a little easier than the commercial pressed DVDs. But I guess backing up again is not really a problem as long as originals are kept stored away and only brought out to burn another copy. Store my originals in boxes in a spare room away from grandkids sticky fingers. Also wife doesn't understand what finger print oils etc can do to a DVD. Have only had to re-burn a few DVDs over after grandkids wore then out. They do love their Lilo & Stich.
