I'm getting lost in the guides refering to guides. Is it really that complicated to convert AVI to DVD? It pains me to say it, I'm the local "guy who knows computers" in my circles, but damn, I'm overwhelmed. Can I be talked through this?

keep in mind im still a newbie but i use vso DivXtoDVD and its actually very easy.download the free version.locate the AVI file, then select a folder you want it to send it to.then hit "convert".then when its done it will automatically open up and show you where your new converted files are, then you can burn it to a dvd.simple as that.hope this helped

I find the easiest way is to use NeroVisionExpress3, all you do is open NVE3 and drag your AVI files into the left window and click NEXT to BURN stage. NVE3 is available at this link http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_tools/nero...

yeah i have Nero, and ive used it to convert an AVI to dvd before.but it takes way longer using Nero than DivXtoDVD.divxtodvd usually takes an hour to convert, and Nero can sometimes take 3-4 hrs.

@ gwen: Nero isnt the easiest tool to learn if you are a beginner, hey i'm still a beginner and i only utilise the recode function and the data burning part

divx to dvd is a simple one click tool which will do everything for you if you want to convert your AVI files to mpeg2 or a dvd movie format. The free version is still available and you can download it from the link below:

http://www.filepedia.com/video_software/dvd-r_tools/vso_divxtodvd...

sorry gwen i'm with dvdfreak1 on this apps that are designed for other uses and not solely for the job at hand (encoding) arent able to utilise all there resources for the one project.

@ Nastajus: would you like some pictures to help you out.

You can use NVE but it is more complex, I agree with andmerr the easiest route is DivXtoDVD. Here are guides for both NVE basics and DivXtoDVD with Shrink and Decrypter or you can use Nero to burn.

thanks arniebear, couldnt find a link but if he had replied while i was still up[ i would of provided the pics. This is even better.

I would also suggest that you have a look at a program called avicodec:

software description:

AVIcodec v1.2 - Free multimeda files analyser :
Gives detailled information, especially the codecs needed to play the file, and where to download those codecs if they are missing on your system.

i wouldnt use any of them, i use TFM the film machine, a one click app and free too, but i dont use 1 of the built in encoders i use CCE for that bit, you link it in settings...

but HCenc that comes with the free TFM is very very good

Nothing here to see, move along folks.

A link would help rotary, but i thought that due to Nastajus, having dificulty with the basics so as to speak that this would be a good starting point.

Once this phase is mastered, your suggestion would be the next logical step within the progression to finding an app that he will be happy with

hi there andmerr

TFM is one of the easiest apps to learn

http://members.home.nl/thefilmmachine/

just a couple of clicks and let it ride simple as that a one click type of app that use pro apps behind its GUI, like besweet, avisynth and encoders built in like HCEnc, it can make the dvd pal or ntsc, change AR 16:9 or 4:3 output as vobs or an iso ready to burn...

easy as pie...

but i like to use an outside encoder called CCE the resulting DVD is as good as the avi you first loaded! yep it is that good as TFM has DSroba built in so it can do 4 passes of CCE in 1 pass - amazing!

oh forgot it can burn your dvd too!!! yup it does the lot

even add subtitles if needed?

then just click make dvd button

Nothing here to see, move along folks.

It appears that the majority agrees upon DivXtoDVD as the way to go, that being the case then may I suggest you download VSOs other prog used with DivXtoDVD and burn with it. The prog is CopyToDVD, all you do is check the box in DivXtoDVD where it says burn with CopyToDVD, voila you have a one step conversion and burn prog, couldnt be easier.

What I do is make a Destination folder as shown for the converted files, choose either PAL or NTSC where it says Standard and then hit convert, the burn with copy to DVD box to be ticked

I use WinAVI Video Converter, it's very intuitive, just a matter of clicking a couple of buttons. You can convert any format to just about any other format and back again if you like.

Any to DVD/VCD/SVCD as well as MPEG,AVI,WMV,VOB,RM conversions.

It's a bit slow, but I just set it up and come back later and all done.

I mastered it in a few minutes and I'm no rocket scientist.
